PC upgrade spec - need opinions
RIght just over a week ago I had the joys of turning my PC on to be greeted with a few feeble attempts to power up followed by a smoke coming out and a metalic burning smell :(
I have tried a different PSU and it wouldnt Come back to life so unsure which parts are dead so I`ve decided its time to buy a whole new system oh and a new psu just to be safe. Here is what I`m looking at. Any thoughts?
PSU, Silverstone Tech. Strider Plus, Modular, 88% Eff', 80 PLUS Silver, SLI/CrossFire, EPS 12V, Quiet Fan, ATX
16GB (4x4GB) Corsair DDR3 Vengeance Jet Black, PC3-12800 (1600), Non-ECC, CAS 9-9-9-24, XMP, 1.50V
Intel Core i7 2600K Unlocked, S1155, Sandy Bridge, Quad Core, 3.4GHz, GPU 850Mhz 8MB Cache, 95W OEM
Asus Maximus IV GENE-Z, Intel Z68, S 1155, DDR3, SATA III - 6Gb/s, RAID SATA, PCIe 2.0 (x16), VGA On Board, Micro ATX
Re: PC upgrade spec - need opinions
Get 8 gb RAM, you will never even find yourself reaching a state where 8 GB isn't enough, so 16 gb is completely useless.
i'd get a 2500k instead of a 2600k if gaming is gonna be the most extensive task you're gonna be running on your computer.
Also, what kind of wattage are you looking at?
Re: PC upgrade spec - need opinions
agreed with the above post get 8 gb ram, unless you are using software that takes advantage of hyperthreading, you save £80 if you went with the 2500k, you dont mention if you are gaming if you are what gfx card you decided to get?
No mention of Hard drive, get a ssd it speed up the loading times and makes a difference day to day, also i get the best psu, get a corsair ax series modular cables and gold rating
Re: PC upgrade spec - need opinions
I`lll be gaming, photo manipulation, some programming.
graphcs are already sorted with PowerColor's Radeon HD 6950 PCS++.

in a nutshell ]more ram can be added later if needed.
Personally I think the sandybridge i7 is a bit rubbish, doing a lot of virtualization is about the only time it makes sense to get one.
Is it possible to hold out for a couple of weeks? Bulldozer should be here soon (sept 19th AFAIK)
Re: PC upgrade spec - need opinions
I can hold out if Bulldozer is going to be worth it.
I`ll just get me laptop now instead lol
