Graphics driver issues

I decided to upgrade from AMD catalyst 11.4 to 11.8 but to do so had to uninstall the old catalyst, in doing so I have managed to lose my graphics card! Can't seem to install any more drivers to get it working again and so I'm stuck with the standard VGA graphics with a lovely resolution...
How can I get my PC to recognise my hd 5770? Tried to reinstall drivers 11.8-11.4 from amd/ati and also tried my disk that came with the card but neither seem to recognise my card. Also tried driver sweeper and have removed my card and then put it back in with no luck. Any ideas how to get it working again?

When this happoned to me I reinstalled direct X (download th latest from microsoft) and this fixed it. You may have to reinstall the driver again after.

Yup there was an update from microsoft called 'ati hd5700 series'
