Dilema: Need new desktop PC parts

Last night my main rig (C2Q 6600, P35 ATX Mobo and 6 Gig DDR2) refused to boot.
My PSU-tester shows that the PSU is still delivering power, so it looking very likely to be the motherboard that has gone.

In an ideal world i'd be buying a Core i5 2500K-based setup, but money is tight right now.

I have the option of just buying a G41-chipset motherboard and continue running a 775-based system (will cost about £45), but i keep second guessing myself.

I'd really prefer to get a MATX board, despite currently using an old Antec P180 case, because i'd like to transfer to a MATX case in the future...

Can anyone recommend a sub-£100 Sandy Bridge motherboard, MATX, which is worth it?
I'll probably pair it with a Core i3 or even a Pentium to get me running.
    Thanks

Have you tried resetting the BIOS and replacing the CMOS battery??

Have you tried remving all USB devices before booting the computer??

Re: Dilema: Need new desktop PC parts

Actually thats a very good point - I tried for about 10 minutes removing devices (all USBs, then the RAM, then the graphics card) and still couldnt get power on, but didnt try to BIOS CMOS battery.

In the (likely) event of needing new hardware I am very drawn towards the 'military grade' resistors etc, but dont know how much this is just marketing blurb - any opinions?

As money is tight have you considered going the AMD route with an AM3+ motherboard? Cheap now and able to take Bulldozer when it's out.

    ASUS M5A88-M EVO £80.57
    Athlon II X3 450 £55.54
    Total: £136.11 (ebuyer)
Possibility to unlock the CPU to an Athlon II X4 or even a Phenom.

Re: Dilema: Need new desktop PC parts

Right.... i've decided to go with what might be percieved as an odd combination..

A Z68 MATX motherboard (on 'Today Only' earlier for £98)
A Pentium G620 CPU ('Today Only' for £48)
    2 x 4 Gig DDR3 ('Today Only' for £35).

Basically, the CPU is a temporary CPU to get my system up and running, so that I can do a full Win7 install etc, and then in a few months / after Christmas / whenever i'll either stick a Core i5 or i7 in there, and still be good to go.
I strongly considered a far cheaper motherboard (H61 chipset or H67), but i just knew that i wanted Z68 long term.

I'll be sure to post my experiences

Re: Dilema: Need new desktop PC parts

Maybe try and lean towards Gigabytes boards as they all have a BIOS update for Ivy-Bridge AFAIK.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.
