BIOS Update for ECS K7S5A v(1.0)

I am trying to update a friend's computer.
Motherboard is a ECS K7S5A v(1.0).
He has a 1000MHz Ahlon processor. Socket 462.
I have bought a 1.8GHz Athlon Processor off eBay to try an improve the PC's performance.
Intially I went onto the ECS website and download the latest BIOS, namely 030811.
I flashed the BIOS and this was successful.
However, now that I have installed the processor it is only showing 1.4GHz.
Does anyone know if there is another BIOS update which enable me to make maximum use of the processors power.
Any help much appreciated.

Firstly, the chances are that you bought an Athlon XP 1800+ processor. Assuming this is the case, it doesn't actually run at 1800MHz. That said, all the Athlon XP listings I can find state that an 1800+ should run at 1533MHz, not 1400. It looks like your motherboard is not correctly identifying the multiplier to use - i.e. 11.5x - there may be a setting in the BIOS to dial this in manually. Alternatively, he might have been mis-sold the CPU: 1400MHz is the correct clock speed for an Athlon XP 1600+. In that case I'd advise against manually messing with the CPU multiplier. Best way to check is to download CPUz and see what that reckons the processor is...

You need to set the FSB to 133 and not 100.

You should have asked for parts here first, I have an XP2200+ and a Thermalright solid copper heatsink that needs a home.

I downloaded CPUz and run it as you suggested and it came up with:

Name: AMD Athlon XP
Code Name: Thoroughbred
Package: Socket A (462)
Specification: AMD Athlon (tm) XP 1500+
Core Speed: 1344Mhz

These are the figures that my computer is showing.

What concerns me know, is that I bought the processor from a reputable seller who described the processor as:
AMD Athlon AXDA2200DUV3C 1.8GHz Socket 462 CPU

If the processor is as the seller described, could it show the results that CPUz is giving me.

Any further help on this problem would be most appreciated.

CPU-z won't always show a CPU correctly if it is underclocked or overclocked. take the cooler off and have a look at the CPU. The code will be on the die.

Have you changed the speed from 100 to 133 in the BIOS ? Durons run at 100 but, The Athlon 462's run at 133.

in the BIOS on the CPU PnP setup page change CPU Frequency setting to 133MHz, DRAM frequency to 133MHz and CPU ratio to 13.5

I had this board years ago, as pointed out if you set the FSB to 133mhz then you will get ~1800mhz, which means the CPU is an Athlon XP 2200+. This is confirmed by the code on the ebay listing, and the fact CPU-Z knows its a Thoroughbred. FWIW I had an Athlon XP 2400+ in this board.

How do you guys get to know stuff like this? Truely amazing.

I changed CPU Frequency setting to 133MHz, DRAM frequency to 133MHz as suggested.

CPUz is now showing:

Specification: AMD Athlon(Tm)XP 2200+
Core Speed: 1792.5MHz

Which is fantastic.

Something else which is satisfying is it is now running at a temperature of 45 degrees, whereas before with the much slower processor it was running at 49 degrees.
