    DVI-D to VGA?

I need a bit of help, just bought a nice spanking HIS 6950.

I have 2 24" acer VGA only monitors. My problem is that the card appears to only have one DVI-I and one DVI-D. It also has an HDMI and 2 smaller ports I am not familiar with.

I previously had my monitors connected with VGA > DVI converters to DVI ports and this worked fine however these converters don't fit into the DVI-D port. I understand that the DVI-D port is digital only and I need some sort of box to convert the signals. so far the only box I have found is £90 and when its going to cost that much i might as well go buy a new DVI/HDMI monitor.

    Need some advice please!!!

Hve you considered buying a cheap graphics card and using its VGA output for your second monitor?

    Re: DVI-D to VGA?

    I did not...

Instead I went out and bought another monitor.

Not entirely happy with it so may return it anyway. It's supposed to be a 24" however I noticed when i got it back that the native res was 1920 x 1080 which is less than my older 24"s 1920 x 1200.

Anyway, side by side the older monitor its quite a lot bigger than this one so I don't think I will keep it. Will have to ring the shop tomorrow and see if they will take a return and maybe pick up a PCI graphics card.

    Re: DVI-D to VGA?

Then again, the colour is so much better on the new one!

Might have to sell both the old 24's and get another one of these iiyamas.

    Re: DVI-D to VGA?

You have to pay a premium for 1920x1200 nowadays as the 1080p panels are created in considerable quantities for TVs. The best bang-for-buck is at 1920x1080

A PCI card should handle aero fine as long as it conforms to :

a DirectX 9 compatible graphics processor with a Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) driver, Pixel shader 2.0 in hardware, and a minimum of 128 MB of Video RAM
    Main PC: Asus Rampage IV Extreme / 3960X@4.5GHz / Antec H1200 Pro / 32GB DDR3-1866 Quad Channel / Sapphire Fury X / Areca 1680 / 850W EVGA SuperNOVA Gold 2 / Corsair 600T / 2x Dell 3007 / 4 x 250GB SSD + 2 x 80GB SSD / 4 x 1TB HDD (RAID 10) / Windows 10 Pro, Yosemite & Ubuntu
    HTPC: AsRock Z77 Pro 4 / 3770K@4.2GHz / 24GB / GTX 1080 / SST-LC20 / Antec TP-550 / Hisense 65k5510 4K TV / HTC Vive / 2 x 240GB SSD + 12TB HDD Space / Race Seat / Logitech G29 / Win 10 Pro

    Re: DVI-D to VGA?

Hang on, if you're getting another new monitor, couldn't you feed them both with DVI? Or both with DisplayPort? Then no need for secondary card?
