    Upgrade advice required.

Hello fellow Hexites, thanks to the Taxman I have now got a £1000 to upgrade my machine and wanted to pick your brain for a few ideas.

Here are the parts I wish to upgrade,

    Motherboard -Open to suggestions
SSD - not currently got/used 1 so not so sure what to look out for.
    GPU - Open to suggestions
    Monitor - idealy 24"
    Mouse - idealy a R.A.T 9
    Keyboard - Open to suggestions

I do need a copy of Win 7 Pro also for another build for a mate to be included in this lot.
If there is anything left on my budget I would like to pop some more ram in also.

    Thank you in advance.

    Re: Upgrade advice required.

Motherboard - I assume you are sticking with the Phenom 965? I'd look for an AM3+ socket board, so you have the possibilty of upgrading to Bulldozer/Piledriver

SSD - The 128GB Crucial M4 is getting pretty good press ATM, I'd look into it.

GPU - The Radeon 7000s are out soon (well, maybe ). If you don't want to wait, look at the 6950/560Ti

Mouse - I recently got a Mionix Naos 3200. Beautiful. I don't know that I'm even using it. There is a model above it, the Naos 5000. You've probably never heard of them, but condiser them

Keyboard - I also got a Microsoft Sidewinder X4 recently. Yet to use it as I'm currently on a laptop. But it seems good for both work and play.

RAM upgrades aren't really necessary post 6GB, and 4GB is still really good. But 8GB is dirt cheap (>£50) so I guess if you want it...

    My two cents

Clearly we have very different opinions on what constitutes a bargain

As others have said - 990FX AM3+ motherboard for Bulldozer upgrade possibility, 8GB of RAM if you must whilst it's cheap, and either wait for the Radeon 7000s, or go for a 6950 / GTX560 Ti at ~ £200, or a 6970 / GTX570 if you want to invest more heavily in the graphics!

Well it is if you consider the g500 mouse is usually over £40 by itself. Still wouldnt pay that much myself but then the OP does want a £100 mouse

    Re: Upgrade advice required.

Don't think I've ever spent more than a tenner on a mouse. In fact, I'm not sure I've ever spent more than a tenner on a mouse and keyboard combined!

    Obviously I'm just a pleb

    Re: Upgrade advice required.

I would suggest looking at this guide:

    http://forums.hexus.net/pc-hardware/...er-2011-a.html

TBH,the OP already has a decent system! I would get a better graphics card and maybe another 4GB of RAM.

A Phenom II X4 at 4.1GHZ will fine for most games and AFAIK it will be around the same level as a Core i5 750 or Core i5 760.

It might be worth seeing hold Bulldozer performs too. I know friends who use both the following motherboards:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus-...-%28x16%29-atx

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/gigab...-%28x16%29-atx

They are both decent although I prefer the Asus one.
