why you all favor AMD! I dont understand what makes them so good!
Well i personally prefer AMD because they are really cheap, and do more operations per clock cycle than INTEL's. Other people have other reasons but they are mine

However with these 64-bit ones costs crazy amounts of money i dont know how much it will hit AMD's users...any idea how much the INTEL 64bits cost will be interesting to see.

I read somewhere the price for a 64-bit prescott would be the same as a 32-bit prescott... And if that is true you can check the price wherever. Though the performance on the EM64T technology might be lacking behind. I've read much now about how the performance might be clearly lower than that of AMDs x86-64. And that would make the performance gap between A64 and Prescott even bigger when you move into the 64-bit world...

Believe I saw an article talking about the rating of 3400+, and they thought it would perform much over its rating compared to a prescott, that is a 3400MHz prescott wouldn't really stand a chance in a world of 64-bittness...

Will be very interesting to see how this develops, intel might still have a small chance of being able to play with the small boys, but AMD has a much stronger position at the moment I'd say.
Light travels faster than sound. Is this why some people appear bright until you hear them speak?

    AMD Socket 939 Athlon 64 3800+, 2.4 GHz, 512KB L2 Cache 64-bit Processor - OEM
    $698.00

To be honest that not that bad for a brand new top of the range performance processor. It will come down in price without a problem, But you may be able to buy the chip but there are no motherboards i can find to run it heh

Socket 939 is too expensive and is not THAT much faster than 754, for now.

I prefer AMD becasue I primarily game and occasionally compile stuff for friends. Nothing (that Intel has or that I can remotely afford) does those things faster than an A64. Same price + more perfromance = no brainer for me.

Just sold my 3400+ (hot C0 stepping, barely oced at all) and ordred a 1.2v A64 2800+ mobile, if my AK89 MAX recognizes it, I should be in for some crazy overclocking. $230 usd wasn't a bad price ether.

The 64-bit factor really doesn't apply to much of anything now. It's a good thing th Athlon 64 is a killer 32-bit cpu as well.
