    Another day, another o/c

Yesterday some of you will remember be attacking my Athlon 850, first with a dremel, then with 9volts.

After the success of that, I'm taking my Tbred for a spin.

    http://www.ocinside.de/html/workshop...md_pinmod.html

Pinmod time, to get myself a juicy 166FSB and lower multiplier!

Please provide me with any tips you might have, or just keep an eye on this thread to see how is goes...

I don't get it. Is your thoroughbred locked?
Also, what hardware are you planning on sticking it in

The thoroughbred is at 12.5x and it is locked, so this presents two problems. Just like with my 850 - the motherboard is next to useless when it comes to overclocking, so I'm relying on pin-modding this time.

The mobo is a Gigabyte GA7VAXP Ultra - excellent features, rubbish chipset (KT400)

I thought if it was a post-week 39 CPU then it is superlocked and only a mod into a mobile will work(and then on the fly multi adjustment in windows)
Seems to me that that pinmod guide is designed to fool motherboards which dont have a AGP/PCI lock rather than to unlock superlocked chips.

It's a year old thoroughbred - not superlocked.

Ok then, what RAM are you going to use with it and whats the stepping & week so's we can make a prediction about what multiplier to choose.
Also, have you any idea what MHz this thing tops out at and whether you have voltage adjustment in the BIOS?

Pinmods are pretty easy if you follow the instructions carefully; just be very careful when you replace the processor in the socket so that you don't dislodge the wire (if that's what you're using).

What processor (and what stepping) is it exactly?

I think it's AXDA, and a thoroughbred A - I'll check when I take it out to move the wires around in the socket...

I have got it going at 166 FSB and a mult of 10, so it's essentially still an XP2000+ but at a higher FSB now. The ZIF socket has now become a PIF (partial insertion force) socket, lol. Not too tight though so no problems removing the CPU or dislodging the wires in the socket.

I am going to crank the voltage up in the BIOS (which i can do) and see what multiplier I can get. Unfortunately I'm not likely to get a great deal out of a Tbred A, but 2ghz would be smashing!

AXDA isn't the stepping. It's the one on the line below. Probably something like AIUHA or AIXIA or maybe JIUHA or something like that. If it ends in a B its a thoroughbred B

2Gig would be a bonus if it's an 'A' I think the average overclock for those is only 2-300MHz

Sorry my mistake - I actually checked all the CPU serials in the shop when I bought it - but they didn't have any B's - it was over a year ago so I can't remember it, but I have found it now...

    'tis an AIWGA

hmm..not heard of the 'W's but G tends to be the last stepping in the line so it should be a pretty good one for an 'A'
    i'd try 166*11.5 now.

I'm at 11.5 and it's the limit. I'm still having a few burn-in stability problems but I have a little bit of voltage left to play with.

CPU is sat at 47ºC while web browsing.

    1.92Ghz - I'm quite pleased!

    Good effort for an 'A'

My old 1700 AIUGA got to 11x166 @1.8V. It would happily boot and benchmark at 11.5x166 but it wasn't prime stable. I set it back to 11x166 and it happily crunched away at UD and FAD 24/7 for more than a year at that speed.
