    Replacement for Logitech G5

This mouse has served me well since I got I and i see no reason to really change it but I was wondering if there was anything better ?

Brand doesn't really matter to me but certain features do; macro functions are not a important feature to me

Must be shaped for right hand (none of this left had evil stuff it gives me cramps in my hand)
    Double button near the thumb
    Thumb rest
Ajustable dpi with little fuss (ala g5 button press)
Decent lenght cable (gold plated / braded just gimicks to me)
    None slip grip surface

Price not really a issue considering I got this has a birthday gift from my mum of all people a good few years ago (must be over 5 years easy) but that does not mean am willing to spend silly money on it !

I did for a while have a razer lachesis and while it was a good mouse in one sense it gave me cramp (sold if for the same price i got it for)

    Thoughts / sugestions ?

    Drew

    Re: Replacement for Logitech G5

I was helping someone pick a mouse recently, and came to the conclusion that the best option was the G500 or the slightly cheaper MX518. The G500, fwiw, is virtually the same as the G5.

They ended up getting the G9x. Which I think is hideously ugly and hideously overpriced.

    Re: Replacement for Logitech G5

And G400 is virtually the same as mX518, so worth throwing in as well.

It's lower range, but possibly more durable as a result. It really is just an MX518 with updated optical engine etc. The wife has one and it's a very good gaming mouse.

    Re: Replacement for Logitech G5

I recently bought a new mouse. You may not have heard of the brand before, but you say you don't care. It does seem quite a good brand though (they are Sweedish, so yeah ). It's the Mionix Naos 3200.

Double button near the thumb - CHECK
    Thumb rest - CHECK
Ajustable dpi with little fuss (ala g5 button press) - CHECK
Decent lenght cable (gold plated / braded just gimicks to me) - CHECK (plus your gimmicks )
None slip grip surface - CHECK

It's a beautiful piece of work. Around £40, uses the same sensor as the G400 (I think). It's main feature is how god damned comfortable it is. You don't know you're using it. I go to use mice at school, and I'm like "where do my ring finger and pinky go?". It's not the top of the range one, it's only 3200 as opposed to 5000, optical rather than laser, but it's sufficient (for me). If you want the extra features, go for the Naos 5000.

    But that's just my opinion

    Re: Replacement for Logitech G5

optical is win, laser is crap... its just so bad for so many reasons (mainly because all these optical sensors are better on surfaces and just seem to track better in terms of fluidness and real time compared to all the laser versions ive tried).

I went for the logitech g400 as my MS sidewinder x8 died again, loving the g400 way more and well it was only £20.... lol, brilliant stuff. Mice are so personnel so its hard to recommend based on feel but for me the g400 fits perfectly and so light and comfortable (easier to handle than the deathadder which i was considering at double the price!).

Must be shaped for right hand - Yes the G400 is

Double button near the thumb - Again, yes

Thumb rest - Yup, also a part for pinky when you need to lift the mouse

Ajustable dpi with little fuss - Yes, plus and minus buttons infront and behind the wheel, also a stock button which brings it back to a default setting, e.g. 800dpi for me

Decent lengh cable - found mine to be decent enough, not sure on length but its also not the braided crap which is useless, this is plastic but i havent had any grip issues (its alot better in reducing friction than braided i find)

None slip grip surface- Pads are great, logitech provide free ones if you need them replaced

I prefer this over to my mates g500 and as previously mentioned... the g400 is a replacement of the mx518, all it adds is:

Better design (for me the other one looked real naff, this is nice and not a flashy gimmick), reliable just as the mx518, 3000dpi optical sensor so for high sense people its even better with higher options. Scroll wheel works alright for me no problems and the surface on the sides for your thumb etc are noslip work well enough and i havent had any sweat problems either (makes a change..).

Its an excellent budget mouse without losing because of it really, ive had a few mice but this has been my best purchase out of all of them.

    Re: Replacement for Logitech G5

I should also say, I was going to get the G400 but the Naos came up as a free gift with a PC Gamer subscrition. So I thought, why not? I'm glad I did though. But you can't go wrong with the successor to the best mouse ever

    Re: Replacement for Logitech G5

I have a Logitech G5 myself and I will use it until it breaks. Unless your really need a new mouse I would stick with it IMHO.

Anyway, these are some suggestions in the Hexus Build Guide:

I recently bought a G5 from another member here (my MX518 broke). I find it slightly more responsive than the MX518 and also the MX510 which is on my other rig.

All much more comfy than the Steelseries ikari (which I've packed away now )

I have an Alienware TactX which seems to be a version of the Logitech G9. All I can say is its top notch! It is very comfortable and the right size for bigger hands. I can get to all the buttons on the fly too.
