I think Acer are better value with something like the Acer TravelMate 291LCi

Poor WIFI range on my Acer was fixed with PCMCIA card and is now great.

Hmmm...good machines for the price, but if I were picking something that weighed in at 2.8 kilos, I'd spend £985 and get the Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo M7400 from Dabs; weighs in at 2.6kg, 1.6GHz P-M, 512MB RAM, 60GB hard disk, DVDRW, 15" TFT, Centrino machine, so 802.11b wireless, XP-Home and MS Works Suite (i.e. Word, Works, Encarta, MS Money and Autoroute). They're all quite big machines though. That said, the Portege is 2.2kg, so there's not a huge difference. BTW, I've actually had my mitts on the F-S machine and it's a pretty damn fine machine. OK, it's £85 overbudget, but I'd still consider it.
