So the lowest model is a 3500+.
Basically i just want to find out the cheapest way into the Athlon64 S939 ballgame :p
Think i'll be waiting a few months yet tho...
I'm very tempted to enter the realm of Athlon64 - but I'm waiting for the 90nm parts. I think at this stage in the game it is a wise choice.
Yeh definitely. I mean socket 939 should be around for a couple of CPU generations now, including the introduction of the duel core cpus. I just want to get in with something as cheap as poss, which will still kick my system in the bottom! Then I will be able to keep upgrading for hopefully the next 2 years.
Do you know when are AMD moving to the 90nm process?
A good idea would be to wait for 64-bit to really hit the fan, it'll be cheaper and more useful by then.
I think its end of the year iMc - and 64bit Windaz should be out then... I hope.
Will 64-bit paint be included?
lol - I've been adding these to the works website today - how scary's that...
I want a nice new FX-53 on the socket 939 but we can all dream lol
I HIGHLY doubt 939 will be used for dual core cpus. They will likely need a whole new socket.Quote:

939 will still be there, as will 754. They will just have something newer. I don't see the need to delay progress. I plan on sticking with 754 for a good while.
in your opinion is it worth getting Althon 64 754 now or waiting till the 939 stuff comes down in price?
I'd say wait for the 939's and see how the field settles...Quote:

At this moment 754 is a better deal in my opinion, upgrading both cpu and motherbaord in the future is not that much more of a hassle as just upgrading the cpu, and everything else is compatable. Motherbaords tend to be far cheaper than midrange or highend cpus.
I'll make up my mind for sure in a few days. I ordered a 1.2v mobile Athlon 64 2800+ wensday, if it overclock as well as I hope, I'll stay 754 for a good while as thats what the mobile chips will stay.
You make a good point there - I can't remember the last time I just bought a CPU and didn't upgrade mobo... oh hang on yes, I upgraded my K6 200 with a Cyrix MII 300 :o
