Gaming headset

Hi guys

Im after a new gaming headset. Budget is £100 max
They will only be used for gaming such as COD, no music!!! and I will need a mic on them too.
Im not interested in USB or wireless.
Im just after comfort and great sound quality, here are 2 sets Iv been looking at:

I've got a set of Razer Carcharias (I love them, supremely comfortable and a great sound, a good mic for skype calls or for trash talk when gaming) £67 from http://www.amazon.co.uk/Razer-RZ04-0...8679971&sr=8-1.

They were CustomPCs headset of choice, but this month they have been superceded by the Asus Vulcan ANC £79.38 from http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus-...gaming-headset.

I've got a pair of Corsair HS1's (ISB version) and I love them. Extremely comfortable, brilliant sound. I would highly recommend them. They come with 5.1, 7.1 all the Dolby stuff too.

Over ear. Iv posted on the SCAN section to see if they have got the new Asus ROG headset out on demo in thier show room. It will be a good place to compare different headsets.
I currently use Beyerdynamic headphones, which are good but are getting a little uncomfortable.

thats a great idea with scan
if you can try some over ear and on ear side by side
as some over ears can feel a bit clamp like (tight)
also try open back and closed back side by side as well if you can as over ear with a closed back can feel a little claustrophobic to some people .

btw what is wrong with your beyer's?

I will try as many as they have got out in the showroom.

The beyer's are getting tatty and hert my ears on long gaming sessions. Also I want headphones with a mic, currently I have an old small headset around my neck along with the beyer's.

cool , could the beyers be repaired?if its the earcups you might be able to buy new ones ,maybe you could then sell them and put towards the new set ?

as far as headset go im a bit out of touch but have you reviewed any sennheiser sets?

We have both the Roccat Kave and the Corsair HS1 here (mine and the misses).

The Roccat Kave headset is definitely the better of the two. The breakout box alone means it edges over the Corsairs purely due to being able to alter the channels more accurately.
The construction also feels a fair bit more solid, and the removable mic is a nice touch. The HS1 also has a fairly horrid material for around the ears - it's comfortable, no qualms there, but the material doesn't seem to last and is already showing signs of wear. It's the kind of material that's rather difficult to clean to. The Kaves have a more 'leather like' (although it's not leather) material which is cleaned much more easily.

The sound on the Kaves is also better, but I put this down to the USB emulated soundcard that the HS1 uses. I don't like this not only because I don't think the auto quality is up to scratch, but it makes using it with the TV / Xbox / PS3 / Any OS that doesn't have drivers for it impossible.
If you go with the Corsairs, make sure you get the HS1A, which has the normal audio leads allowing you to hook it into a decent soundcard.

Then again, the Kaves are almost double in price so don't be surprised about what I've said above. You pays yer money

Thanks for the info. I think iv ruled out the Corsair sets. I will be comparing the Asus, Razer and the Kavas. All get great reviews, now down to personel preferense I reckon.

I prefer the material on the HS1's. As I wear mine for hours on end (4+ sometimes). And with other headsets the leather used to get uncomfortable pretty quick. But I've wore these for hours on end, and they never get uncomfortable. Feels like my head is being cuddle by clouds!
