    P4 Processor Problem

    Specs:
    P4 2.6 HT 800 MHz processor
    Abit IC7 motherboard
    512Mb DDR 400 memory
Visiontek Xtasy Geforce 4 Ti 4400
    Creative Audity 2
    Bios Version v6.00PG

I've just put my computer together,i have a P4 2.6 800 MHz processor on an Abit IC7 board. I switched it on for the first time, and on the POST after detecting HHD etc it says 'CPU is unworkable or has been changed. Please recheck - CPU soft menu'
I havent changed any of the bios settings, the frequency is showing 1.3 Mhz (100 x 13.0)

    Cheers

Change your BIOS settings to match those of the CPU

Dont worry, its supposed to do that when you build it for the first time

yup its because its seen the cpu for the first time, make sure the settings are ok in the bios like agent says and then restart and the message should go away

Have you tried just keeping the processor setup to auto on the IC7 board ??

I have the IC7-G and a P4 2.6c and it worked straight away. The only thing it did was show as 1.3gig until a reboot when it realised it was an HT chip.
