Just wondering at what point to stop pumping voltage into these is.
I'm new to the darkside so have no idea what will kill the chip.

Air I would say 1.65v is safe maximum
Water I would say 1.775v-1.8v maximum
Phase I would say 1.85v-1.875v tbh :)

SNDS (Sudden Northwood Death Syndrome) has been known to set in at any voltage over 1.7V, whatever cooling you use. 1.75V might kill your chip in 2 years, the higher you go the quicker your chip is likely to die. Do not pump Athlon type voltages into a P4 Northwood, there's a good chance it will die.
What's safe for a Prescott is anyone's guess at the present time. I would be more concerned about my motherboard power supply circuitry TBH:eek:.

Hold on Rave the SNDS plauged early northies ie 400FSB and early 133FSB but these latest 800FSB ones are safe at the voltages posted, I wouldn't say otherwise and as I have a P4 I know the safe voltages!!!
Take alook around XS or True Xtreme to see many people pumping 1.8v through 800FSB P4s regularly! People have pumped as much as 2v through the EE edition chips and they are very healthy!
As I understood it the SNDS is simply caused by the 0.13 die size compared to the old athlons 0.15. Therefore it cant handle the high voltage with the the interconnects being destroyed.
So it shouldnt matter whether its a old version or new version...

Newer P4s are far more robust, the P4EEs really fly ONCE you put some serious volts through them! 2v is the highest have put them for a long period of time and their still kicking around healthy! Unlike athlons though P4's rarely do much better if you start to pump a lot of volts through them. My P4 does 3.4GHz at a push on water for benching at 1.65v now if I give it more than that say 1.75v the clock speed perhaps is raised by 1-2MHz but nothing worth the heat output. Many people have a similar problem with them
I've always gone AMD when overclocking. But from what I've heard, High voltage on a P4 = Bad idea. Might have changed a s Firelord sais, but I wouldn't bet on it. I wouldn't go far if I had a P4, wouldn't like to risk such a pricey part :)
Though I've never held back the voltages on my XPs... my 2400 with W/C got a 2.2Vcore treatment for many months, both the CPU and I liked it :D
