Hi guys,
Got a Duron 850 sitting here doing nought and a 6GB HDD and DVD ROM drive and I was wondering whether if I paired the 850 on a KM400 board with a GeForce3/4 or 64MB 9200 and 512MB RAM whether it would play DiVX, XVID and DVDs fine??
Was gonna get a small mATX case prob the Ante Aria or Samcheer case and all my films and stuff are on a 160GB external USB2 HDD.
ANy thoughts??

Yeh i would have thought so.
My bros K6-2 500Mhz, 96Mb Ram, Voodoo3 plays DVD movies fine.

That would do the job fine.
Im not sure about DivX though. Don't they need quite a bit of cpu power?
DVD will be a breeze tho.

If I get a KM400 I could always just get a second hand XP or a new 1600 Duron in there cheap

Yeh and i reckon that would do ur DivX stuff well then.

850 duron is more than fast enough to play high quality divx and xvid.
My gf's 633 Celery, Intel 810e chipset board plays DIVX fine, no reason why a far faster Duron 850 and KM400 chipset wont
my IBM thinkpad 560X plays divx and Xvid ok and its a p233 =) so i rekon it could cope
Also that Duron could probably run at 1ghz with a bit of effort - but then quietness becomes an issue.

do yourself a favour, get a bottom of the line ATI instead. the 2D image quality on the cheaper ATIs far exceeds that of the cheaper nVidias.Wicks

hmm, just be aware that it makes the difference between being able to read things like filenames, or not. we tried a geforce 2 mx, radeon 7000 and sis6236 in our machine.
