BSOD issue on RO2 and now BF3 beta?

I will make a new thread in regards to BSOD i recieved from RO2 and now BF3 beta just this evening. here is some info about the crash using "whoCrashed" app Resplendence Software - WhoCrashed, automatic crash dump analyzer

BF3 crashes:

both crashes from ro2 and bf3 seems to be the same? any idea what they mean?

• ASUS P6T deluxe Socket 1336 Mobo
• 6GB DDR3 Ram
• Nvidia 480GTX card
• Intel i7 920 2.6GHZ Nehalem
• Corsair 800W PSU
• Lian LI full tower PC-A7010 case
• Thermalright Ultra Extreme aka TRUE
• OCZ 120GB SSD
• PLus 5 SATA hdd's of different sizes and makes.

are you overclocking the cpu/ video card
is the ram set to the correct timings and not just auto ?
what sort of temps do you get in game ?
are you running the latest bios


BF3 gives cards some serious stick.. i guess RO2 does as well.

More seriously, first job is to get some software to log hardware temperatures - not just to display them, but to actually log, preferably at least once a second. I think Speedfan can do this, and it's useful because it will do all of your hardware at once; older versions of ASUS Probe could do it for CPU and memory, and newer ones might be able to do GPU as well. Then start playing one of the games until the PC crashes. When you go back in, check the logged temperatures and see if anything is obviously climbing out of spec.

480's throttle back if they get to hot so it shouldnt be that, and tbh they usually bsod with an nvidia error when they do let go!

the nb/sb will roast on that board when its being hammered

I smell something burning... That's above comfortable GPU temperatures.

Definitely get some temperature logs but I suspect it's your GPU causing the issue from what you have posted.

Whats the recommended temps? i though 110c is for a 480gtx? damm i really dont wanna buy a new GPU. not because of finance issue but because im really waiting on the new Nvidia and ATI cards to come out!

it may be blocked. also make sure the fans ramping to 100% under load

Have you tried rolling back from the 285.38 driver? Seen a few posts about P-state bugs with the BF3 drivers.....and even a couple of people reporting large temp increases and potentially broken cards....

Take it all with a pinch of salt though....at least until you have done some more testing

I believe 110 is the *max* temp for a 480GTX. For long term running you'd want it below 100C really, and you're already seeing it spike up to 99C quickly, which doesn't bode well for a long gaming session. As shaithis says, try rolling back the driver, and potentially try running some other loading programs whilst monitoring GPU temps to see if it's a specific issue with those games (it may be a particular function call in the driver that's buggy and causing the temps to spike, for instance). I'm not sure what's happened with the Fermi drivers disabling furmark, so that might not be the best bet...

Well, your going to have to if you want to troubleshoot it....and you say it's crashing on RO2 as well.....so it's a VERY easy test......and I wouldn't give a damn about a beta game if the drivers needed to play it atm are frying your video card...

Yea i guess so. But before i did the driver update to work for bf3 beta, RO2 seemed to work fine after RO2 released one of there patches. this was like after i cleaned out my GPU and all the other components in my pc.

i then installed the bf3 beta drivers a week ago and notice just this weekend of the BSOD issues with that game. it was the first real play through i have had on that game

Not enough voltage to the CPU or QPI/vtt. If manually setting it then up it some more. If using auto stuff then enable LLC and consider disabling C1E. What voltage is your RAM, and what's your current QPI/vtt setting?

Sure you didn't damage a line while cleaning? Make sure your power connectors are all secure (esp. motherboard and EPS connector).

edit: asus - QPI/Dram, not vtt, sorry.

Then that sounds very much like the problem is being caused by the beta drivers - and if you're unlucky it might have fritzed your graphics card. First job is *definitely* to roll back the driver to the last stable version then try playing your other games - and hope that the beta hasn't somehow managed to fritzed your card completely...
