Worth spending a little extra on a liquid cooler?
Hi all,
got quite a few bits of my new build either here or on there way. At the base is an i7 2600k which I'll be looking to overclock to around 4.5ghz in a Fractal R3 case.
I was planning on going with either the H60 or Antec KÜHLER H2O 620 Cooler (probably the latter), as they are around the £50 mark.
However, I've saved a few quid of some other bits so could possibly stretch to £70-odd, so was thinking maybe the H70 or equivalent.
I was wondering if anyone had any opinions whether it's worth spending the extra £20 on a cooler or instead getting a few extra case fans? I want it to be a fairly quiet build, but certainly don't want it over-heating!
Any help appreciated.
Thanks :)
Re: Worth spending a little extra on a liquid cooler?
I would get extra case fans and change the one on the cooler for 2 of the ones you buy for a few extra degrees cooling. The H70 is only a H60 with a thicker rad and an extra fan, almost the same cooling can be achieved by adding another fan on the H60. Also the extra fans will keep the rest of your rig cooler.
I use these bitfenix fans on my water cooling rig and my case. bargain for the money, almost silent with good air preasure. If you dont want the led lit up you can eitehr buy the Hydra controler or just pull the led cable connector off and the leds turn off.

Thanks for the advice. From your link I assume the quiet ones without the leds are just as good?

While not cheap I'd probably go for a couple of scythe gentle typhoon's http://www.scan.co.uk/products/120mm...pm-cooling-fan or http://www.scan.co.uk/products/120mm...or-replacement
while expensive they are probably the best radiator fans on the market.
Re: Worth spending a little extra on a liquid cooler?
Thanks Pob read some great reviews of the scythes. Is it just a case of replacing the stock radiator fan with the scythe? Or is there a better placement for the fan? Or, do I add the Scythe to the radiator as well? Sorry I'm used to builds, but a bit of a lame duck when it comes to cooling!
Pob, please feel free to spit all over the glass now :D
