    Xclio Nighthawk HDD indicator LED

    Hi Folks,

I've just put together a system using the Xclio Nighthawk case, bit of a tight fit but everything has gone relatively smoothly.

The only queries I have are:

Is it worth connecting the case fans to the motherboard (Asus P868V) or just to leave them wired to the fan controller on the top of the case.

Does anyone know how to get the HDD activity light to work, the current connection is again to the panel on top of the case, there doesn't appear to be any seperate connectors for Power LED and HDD LED.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers,

    Krys.

I'm guessing there are 2-4 120mm fans? If so and you want to control them from BIOS or with speedfan, I would get a PWM splitter cable like this

Re: Xclio Nighthawk HDD indicator LED

Yup, there's 2 front and one rear at the moment, currently controlled by the manual speed controller on top of the case.

I have them on maximum all the time at the mo as they're very quiet, the cable you posted is pretty much what I'd be after if I swapped them to motherboard controlled so cheers for that

The main headscratcher I have to admit is the HDD LED, there're 4 LEDS on the corners of the front of the case, the top two are for power and the bottom two are supposed to be for the HDD.

Here's the rub, there is one 2 wire connection between those and the top panel where there are switches to turn off the LED's and the fans. There are no other connectors to go to the mobo other than the power and reset switches. The manual supplied with the case has no info and the website is equally pants.

I'm wondering whether it would be easier just to wire a blue led to the HDD indicator connection of the mobo instead.

Re: Xclio Nighthawk HDD indicator LED

Are both power LEDs driven from the same PWR_LED cable? And both HDD LEDs from the HDD_LED cable?

Just wondering why they would have 2 of each....and thinking purely aesthetic.

Re: Xclio Nighthawk HDD indicator LED

That's the thing, there aren't even any connectors for them to the motherboard.

Connectors supplied for the mobo are PWR switch and RESET switch.

There is a Molex connector that goes directly to the control panel and a Molex to the center front fan.

There is a 2 pin connector (not motherboard compatible) that attaches the 4 LEDs on the front corners of the case to the control panel, I'm pretty sure this just powers all 4 LEDs when the power is on which is fine but no way to have a HDD indicator that I can see unless I'm being really thick and missing something.

Re: Xclio Nighthawk HDD indicator LED

    Indeed, that's what I thought.

As the case has a clear side panel I can pretty much live with a muted flicker from inside to indicate HDD activity, does anyone know the best way to connect an LED to the mobo HDD connector, by this I mean is it as simple as connecting an LED to it or would there be resistors etc involved.
Alternatively is there a nice case modding supplies website I can flash my debit card at for the apprpriate bit lol.

Re: Xclio Nighthawk HDD indicator LED

Hi Haukris, you could buy a main board testing switch set, which includes a hdd led ready to connect to your mobos hdd front panel connector (I use them when testing a mobo out of its case).

You can buy this set for £4.99 (+ p&p I expect, unless you have a store close by) from maplin http://www.maplin.co.uk/motherboard-...itch-set-98842.

    Hope this helps.
