    USB Short

    Hello

I have a laptop with a broken USB port which when used turns the computer off. This has happened a couple of times already but has always turned back on ok. However the last time this happened it wont turn back on. I can only assume it has shorted the motherboard? What I would like to know is how I can test this for certain and whether it could have blown anything else that may need replacing?

    Re: USB Short

It could quite easily have killed the laptop altogether. I had a similar problem with a motherboard some years ago and it fried it completely. I didn't get a second chance. There was a flash when I plugged something in and the motherboard died.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but it probably wasn't a good idea to keep on trying to use the port.
