Heres what I have got at the moment
Pentium 4 2.6GHz 800FSB HT
512 DDR PC2700 SO-DIMM
So as you can see I am running a laptop and would like to upgrade the memory as I believe this would give the best performance boost.
When using CPUZ I notice that my memory FSB is 200, which I believe is correct ( 200 x 4 = 800 FSB ) so in theory would my bandwidth be the same if i was to get PC2100 or would I notice a decrease in performance?
Definitely a decrease in performance. Your current setup is actually throttling that CPU as it should be using PC3200 RAM.
So my advice is buy some nice shiny new 3200 RAM

Depends on the laptop though - any idea what chipset it is and if they have actually implemented dual ddr in it? Id hazard a guess some p4 lappys dont do dual ddr cause of the wiring requirements on the pcb and space limitations within the case. Sure, PC3200 will help, but check out whether you have 2x256meg PC2700 in dual mode, or 1x 512stick in single, whether the lappy actually IS dual ddr etc
It's a SIS chipset and doesn't have dual channel. I would be looking at getting a min of 1GB but obviously PC2100 would be cheaper than PC3200 so I don't want to get the latter if I am not going to notice any bandwidth improvements.
Find out what RAM speeds the SIS chipset supports. If is supports DDR400 (PC3200) then go with the 3200 as it'll be running synchronous with the fsb - which is what you want.

The new XMS-XL memory is great and can be ran at upto 500 Mhz if needed ( if you want to overclock that is )

M8 I recommend Crucial Memory, built here in the UK they are some of the best memory makers at some of the lowest prices.
I have used them in my systems for over 5 years now with great overclocking results.
Overclocking is not really available to laptops due to the chassis being designed to take certain heat loads. So I wouldn't recommend buying overclocking memory just for sake of it. Also Duel DDR laptops are not very common, I think Dell do 1 and alienware do a few.
