The Quality of the analogue will be down to the DAC on your soundcard/motherboard, if you're using onboard, optical or hdmi audio output is the way to go.
It's the DAC on most motherboards that's the weak link from my understanding.

Ah okay, it'd be better to go onboard + optical as opposed to onboard + analogue? I'm trying to save some pennies, so a sound card would kinda stretch me slightly.

Optical is the way to go IMO.
Tried analog from my motherboard to my Sony Receiver then I tried Digital and the difference is very noticeable.
I've been told the clearer the bits the better, with analog its a messier wave form.
