Advice requested for new build

Hey guys, i'm looking for some advice on a new build i'm planning. I'm hoping to end up with a nice gaming system to last me a while, with hopefully only a gfx card upgrade after a year or two.

Looking at current guides and advice in other posts, im considering the following parts:

i5 2500k cpu
P67 / X68 mobo
8gb of 1600 DDR3
GTX 560ti 1gb

Other parts will come from my current rig, CM HAF case, drives, OS and a 650w Tagan PSU.

Ignoring the inevitable release of new tech, do you guys think its likely the system will hold out for 4-5 years, without any bottlenecks if I were to upgrade the gfx card at some point?

Pc is used for gaming, I'd hope to be able to use high settings @ 1900x1200 after rebuilding my system. Is this reasonable with the setup above?

4-5 years? Possibly but I doubt it.

Just over 5 years ago the Q6600 released. It has to be overclocked these days to play games decently at high end resolutions/settings....and will fall short depending on what your doing with it.

I wouldn't say anything ground-breaking has happened in those 5 years.....and the Q6600 was quite a jump up from the previous dual cores.

There is a lot of interesting info floating around about the next 3-5 years in CPU manufacturing and I think we might see some sizeable jumps in the time-frame your talking about.

There really is no way to future proof a PC for 5 years.....

An overclocked Q6600 does still cope with many games very well, even a c2d clocked to 3ghz or more still copes well, mainly down to while we are seeing more games using multiple cores few are using more than 2 cores most are still not and the ones that do don't utilise them that well.

Most pc games are still heavily held back by consoles, until we see the next generation of consoles I don't see that progressing much.
The same situation goes for graphics, the majority of games are still dx9 with added dx10+dx11 bits added ontop, which does end up with some baggy code and bad performance.

An i5 2500k should last a good few years, the graphics card is going to be the issue.

Thanks guys, your replies are very helpful, I'm not sure what has happened lately in the hardware market and whether there was any 'new big thing' that had just released or was close.

I'm planning for a near christmas rebuild anyway, so will see if prices fall around then. I get the feeling I could go for a slightly cheaper proc+mobo and not worry so much about the system's shelf life if saving some money on the initial build.
