    SN41G2 V2 XP3000 Problems

    Hello All,

I'm new to SFF's & this forum, I'm having difficulties setting up my SN41G2 V2 & I'd really appreciate any help you guys can offer!
I have installed an AMD XP3000 which runs ok when the FSB is set to 100 but when I try to set the FSB to 166 the machine randomly shuts down (even during post), when this happens I have to unplug the power supply from the mains to turn the Shuttle on again.

I'm not sure how to tackle this problem, could it be heat related or something to do with the ram (Crucial 512MB 2700 DDR)?

Also the power supply (250W) clicks quite noisily when the Shuttle is switched off (but plugged in), is this a characteristic of the 250W power supply or do I have a faulty unit?

As previously mentioned, all help will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like it is a heat issue with the CPU, try reinstalling the heatsink and make sure there is an even supply of thermal compound to increase heat transfer. Hopefully this should solve your problem.

As for the PSU making noises when turned off I had the exact same problem with the 200W one my shuttle came with, but when I upgraded to the shuttle SilentX 250W (like yours) the clicking dissapeared.

It may be a PSU problem, if the heatsink is fine then try using a normal ATX PSU and see if your system is ok then!

    Good Luck!!

    Thanks for your reply Timmy,

I tracked the problem down to me leaving the plastic on the copper shim (basic mistake on my part, I know) & since I have removed that, the cpu has been fine at 166fsb.

I had a look at my psu & bizarrely, there was a 200W unit instead of the 250W, so I phoned the company I bought the Shuttle from & they have given me a replacement 250W psu (lucky that the 200W was clicking, otherwise I may not have noticed the wrong psu was installed

Where did you buy the shuttle from? Seems really odd to include the wrong PSU!

Some places have started to put the 250's in more as a power user thing instead of using the std200 and then having trouble with ppl ringin up n moaning etc...

Mine came with a 200 and its fine, m8's came with the same type 200 and his clicks like u describe, I'm gonna upgrade mine tho soon so he's having my old unit....

I bought it from www.overclock.co.uk who were as suprised as I was about a V2 (mine is definately a V2, not a V1) having a 200W psu, but they were really helpful & I highly recommend them.

It might be a case of people getting mixed up between the V1 and the V2 on the SN41G's. The mobo on the V1 is v1.* and v2.*, while the mobo on the V2 is v3.*
