Just one last question to make sure.

Some people have said the Gainward GF FX5900XT Ultra/1100XT wont fit in to the Shuttle is this true ?

    Cheers

I bought and assembled two systems almost identical to your specs above, including the Gainward 5900XT.

Excellent system, but it does run hot when the 3d kicks in.

My cpu temp was normally about 43 C, and the case 41 C. However, after an hour in NWN @ high res, the cpu would be 46 C and the case 56 C. The 5900XT doesn't have a temperature monitor, but the high case temperature would indicate that its putting out a ton of heat.

Worried about such temperatures and their effect on my new video card, I've made a minor case mod which you ought to consider.

The SN45G comes with an 80mm Sunon fan that doubles as system fan and cools their ICE heatsink. I removed the 80mm Sunon, and replaced it with a machined aluminum 80mm to 120mm fan adapter, and a Panaflow 120mm fan attached on the rear of the case.

Tolerances were a bit tight, but it fit without a problem. Also, the fan's on a molex, not on the fan header on the MB. Its fairly quiet, perhaps a little less noisy than the original Sunon on full blast.

Now when idle, the cpu temp is 39 C, and the case 41 C. After gaming an hour, the CPU is 43 C and the case is 46 C.

Thats a marked improvement, 10 degrees cooler. From other sites I've read, the 80->120 mod is fairly common, and may be neccesary for this case running a hot card like that. Another fairly common mod is to cut out the grill on the back of the case to improve air flow. I have not done so, lacking an effective means to cut it.

I'm also considering cutting a one inch hole directly over the fan on the 5900XT, to see if I can feed it air directly, however I'm worried about adversely affecting the negative pressure in the case.

    Demo
