    Eden for a fileserver?

The mobo in our (home) file server is nackerd (i think) so i though i'd replace it with a via 500mhz.

    - This should work fine i recon, beciase it only got a 1000mhz chip in there now, and i never use any of it, except for virus scans!
    - And it would be nice for it be quiet too.
    - The machine would be running win2k AS

The only down side is i'd get though less workunits, but thats no biggy.

I have used low power Eden boxes with an external disk stack as Linux fileserves without issues but by the time the OS and file share services (NFS, Samba etc.) are loaded do not expect work units to really be an option.

The plus side is that the disks are by far the loudest bits and disks aside they do not eat much juice.
