does anyone have any experience of using Asrock motherboards??
i've heard conflicting opinions of them, ranging from brilliant to rubbish
i'm not looking for a board to overclock, i'm building a few for other people & the price on these seems way too good to be true (based on the "you get what you pay for" principle)
so, anyone used them? any good/bad experiences to share?

Ive used one for about 6 months now and have found it to be extreemly stable with no problems/incompatabilities. While its lacking in overclocking related features it will do "exactly what it says on the tin" with no problems.
So I would definately endorse them! Just depends on what you are looking for I suppose.

A mate of my brother's got him a cheap AsRock mobo, k7vm3, only supported 266fsb, but wacked a 2200xp in with 512mb pc2700 and a geforce mx440 8x and it works fine.
Nothing fancy or lightning fast but allows him to play all the games at the most recent lan party inc painkiller mp, toca 2 race driver, ut2004, vietcong mp, etc
I wouldn't look to overclock with them although I think they won some awards about 6 months back for a cheap overclocking board.

Just like CWT = Antec there are lots of companys out there with buget lines, take Gigbyte they do the GeCube stuff. So basicly Asrock is the buget line for asus.

I heard the board that's based on the latest SiS chipset for Socket A is a good fast board and dirt cheap; it even supports 200FSB!

Most of the new ones are
k7vm2 = via based
k7s41 = sis based
basicly the v/s denotes the chipset used
The cyber caffe near me uses mostly AS-Rock boards (trust me, I've built some of the gaming machines, lol.)
Not exactly top notch, but these weren't top of the range boards that were being used, so it's to be expected.
No problems were experienced with the motherboards, though.

Yeah? I heard they were made in mainland China to save on labour costs. Still an Asus subsidiary though, and I've not heard any particularly bad things about their reliability save a few A64 boards that went wrong.There made at the same plant asus make theres

my old man's gigabyte mobo (k6 - 800mhz) has died so looking for a cheap mobo, chip and ram upgrade. Will look into this board a bit (no pun intended) more. Interested in SiS chipset to see what it's like.
Remember anything coming out of Taiwan now has made in China stuck on it. If you check their website, they are indeed Taiwaneese. They have the usual superb engrish mission statement too. lol
I've reviewed two and still have a K7S8X-E running stable with SETI and a 2400XP fine.
