memory question?
ok im a complete noob :heckle: when it comes to memory and the like.
can sum1 tell me in laymans terms what the difference is between registered and unregistered and also would some registered ram (OCZ_PC-3500_ECC_Registered_Dual_Channel_DDR ) work with an an-7 mobo?
any help will be appreciated
thx

Registered RAM error checks the data before chucking it back. It will tend to slow down a gaming rig as it adds time to the process, also it is uberexpensive.
So all in all not really worth it.

some Motherboards WONT support it...the latest 64bit Athlons are fussy...some DO support it...others WONT....accroding to the motherboard.

this one?
http://www.abit.com.tw/page/uk/mothe...Specifications
cos that says Unbuffered only.....so I think that means NO :(

There is a difference between registered & ECC (error checking) RAM although the 2 usually do go hand in hand.
No nForce2 board works with ECC RAM.

i think you should get the regular ram and save the money and the possibility for incompability

If you want to know the difference between reg and non-reg memory, then check out the Corsair website:

The RAM Guy's tech notes should be able to answer all of your questions....
Hope it helps...

Registered memory does NOT check for or correct errors, ECC (error checking and correcting) memory does. ECC can be registered or unbuffered and registered memory can be ECC or not.
