Windows 7 tablet

I have a real hankering for a windows 7 tablet. I do a lot of travelling and love to watch stuff in bed. my laptop is good for this, but being 17" can make it awkward when off on my travels.

I want it to be windows 7 as I has a home NAS and want it to wirelessly connect to it. I also quite like windows 7, and like the idea of being able to install windows 8 on it when it is released next year.

I have a budget of around £400, big screen size is of big interest to me.

Can anyone recommend me anything?

Windows 7 is not known to be a matured Tablet OS .. so getting hold of one before buying would be a tough job. There are a few in the market though .. Samsung, Lenovo, etc ... but best to wait for Windows 8, which is tablet ready from ground up.

Or you can look at Dell Inspiron Duo which is both a laptop and tablet rollled into one using a 180 degree flip screen.

If you want full windows 7 with full windows 8 capability - including legacy apps - then you're looking at x86, and there's not a lot of good choices. It's basically generic Atom 10" pads (they start at around £250 on the 'bay), the Inspiron Duo (you can usually pick one up for ~£350 on the Dell Outlet site), or the Acer Iconia W500, which is AMD fusion based and costs somewhat more than £400.

As others have said though, Win7 isn't a great tablet OS. I've played with a Fujitsu Stylistic Q550 and I was somewhat underwhelmed by it. So I reckon the Inspiron Duo might be the best option, 'cause then you've got the quick flip back to a netbook if (when!) you need it....

Do you have a NAS or WHS (Windows Home Server).
With NAS, you should be able to connect with any Tablet/OS.
Using WHS .. might be a different story.

Surely WHS is just CIFS/SMB so as long as you give it the correct creds you will be fine.
