£400 laptop - best deal currently?

Friend of mine looking for a laptop atm, anyone seen anything interesting around this price mark, would prefer 17 inch screen as its pretty much going to be a desktop replacement.

They called me from Comet, so I hastily talked them out of buying a model that appeared to be specced for 3 years ago, so any bargains spotted would be useful

Just like to point out that you can get upto date or bargains from Comet if you buy the right laptop, i sent my brother there back along because for the laptop it was actually cheaper at Comet than online. Just don't buy the warranty.

As for £400 laptops there are a few around but £450+ will give you more options.

I was going to add DMXDimension - they seem to list all the best Dell deals - but Yosh has beaten me to it!

saw a cracker of a toshiba on Tesco Direct, going for £319. 15.6 inch screen, 6Gb Ram, i3 but deal ended and it went back up to £369, hoping to find something similar, might have been a one off tho.

You said 17" in your OP. 15" opens the variety up widely, as with 17" i3 your really pushing the boundaries for that price range.

Prefer 17, but not limited to There really is no immediate rush on this, so perusing deals as they arrive. Going to keep an eye on the Black Friday things and see what happens
