Sound stops working on NF7-S 2.0

Ok so recently my computer has developed this annoying problem where the sound just cuts off.

.wavs and .mp3 files wont play, unless its through media player, and thats not much help seeing as I use winamp. It doesnt even play system sounds for example, logging off windows and such. All these bad problems go away once I have restarted though. I think its the drivers, but im not too sure and thought I would ask here first to see if anyone had any answers before I went and un-installed them.

Im using the nforce audio drivers version 4.31

If anyone could shed some light on this problem it would be a great help. Thanks muchly

Download the lastest drivers, uninstall old and install new drivers.

If you have problems still uninstall, use drivercleaner and install again.

well if you hold your finger on the southbridge which is the large black square at the bottom of mobo you will be able to tell,if its 'ow hot' then it needs some sort of cooling such as a bit of chopped up heatsink,old northbridge fan or a microcool southsink which is about £3 and will stick right on with the provided frag tape

alternatively prop a fan up aimed at the southbridge,if the sound breakup stops then you know it's that

Right, thanks. I did as Rabs advised (thanks btw) and I havent had any sound loss yet. Is there anyway I could use something like SiSoft Sandra to monitor the temp of the southbridge?

On my NF7-S the sound does crackle every now and again, if this happens a lot to you, get a heatsink for your southbridge as shrickvr6 suggests

I'd go with this - if I overclocked mine too much it used to do the same thing - in fact if you were playing a game it would start to miss out over half of the sounds and sometimes worse (sound corruption etc...).

Taking the FSB down a tad especially in the summer months is good advice.

Placing a heatsink on the southbridge of nForce2 boards is in my opinion compulsory, the fact it isn't done during manufacturing is an indication of how far motherboard manufacturers will go in order to save a bit of money. Even when idle the southbridge reaches temperatures of 55c in a suitably cooled case, i've built many nForce2 based machines for people and i don't even give them the option of whether or not they'd like a heatsink on the southbridge because i know if i don't put one on it'll only cause me more grief later on.
