    A7N8X-E Deluxe

Apologies if this is in the incorrect section....but ive got a slight prob with my new board.

I've just got a cpu, a stick of RAM and gfx card connected and yet whenever I power up, the cpu's fan just dies after 2 seconds.

thing is, i havent even screwed it onto my case yet and have placed the board on various bits of cardboard and anti-static bags and it still powers down - but the boards LED is still on.

    Any ideas????

It sounds like you haven't mounted your heatsink correctly - and that the CPU is overheating and turning itself off.

You shouldn't use adhesive - the heatsink should have come with a thermal pad or paste (usally a pad - can be black or pink and are usually like chewing gum in consistency). This would affect it but it ought to boot and run hot IMO. Most heatsinks can be mounted the wrong way meaning that they sit at an angle on the socket (look at the crappy ASCII art and imagine if the heatsink was the wrong way around - it wouldn't sit flat and would make poor / no contact with CPU core). What heatsink have you got?
