    Reminder to everyone.....

Just thought I would voice a couple of things, which I have just gone, then went .... So the GPU was overheating, and I went to get some compressed air, leaving it on sleep. Came back, opened it up, removed the GPU, and cleaned it all out... Then upon reinstalling it, dropped the screw which fell into the PSU eeek, so quickly turned off the PSU switch at the back, removed that and got the screw out, Put it all back together and booted, however was not greated with the usual login screen, but the locked screen? So I thought OMG have I broken it?? (odviousally not since it was powered on and working), started up the event viewer... and the machine had been asleep when I removed the GPU, and right up till when I pulled the plug, extremely pleased its still working, but lesson is:
    1. Make sure computer is off before doing stuff to the hardware!
    2. Use a magnetic screwdriver

Note, there was no real point to this, just thought you may find it funny

I remember someone on here mentioning that he tried to remove RAM while the system was fully booted. To his surprise it BSOD'd shortly after

    Re: Reminder to everyone.....

It is amazing how resilient PC equipment usually is.

I was working on my in-laws PC and noticed it rattled. When I investigated it turned out to be a screw rattling around in the PSU. No idea how long it had been in there. I consider myself very lucky that both the PSU and the equipment attached had survived.

I also once managed to connect a PCI Express power connector to the motherboard ATX 12V connector. I can't remember how I managed it, I thought the PSU I was using didn't have any PCIE power, I think I had found an 8 pin connector and it fitted the 4 pin socket on the motherboard. Oddly enough it didn't boot. I figured it out in the end...

The number of people I hear claim that this will wipe your HDD if you go close to it is shocking

It's the myth that won't die!

    Re: Reminder to everyone.....

I've seen MasterCare technicians do things like install replacement RAM with the PC still live, I've seen them plug in HDD's with the PC still on too, they weren't working for MasterCare much longer after that though.
