After the stupid computer mistakes thread I started, it got me thinking...
Who here, in their eyes, seems to have the rotten luck and end up nuking things all the time? Furthermore, who seems to have a nack for getting broken stuff up and running again?
I seem to have the gift of repair, though I'm touching wood as I say that... don't want to jinx it!
I went for "Bit of both" as stuff alwyas stops working, but never "breaks" i.e I get it working in the end. Lol.
I also went for bit of both since it's not rare for me to break things, but I can normally fix the problems. I also help friends with their PCs as well (and hopefully some people on these forums)
I tend to break stuff, but I get me bro to fix the busted stuff for me...Dunno where he gets the knowledge and ability....we came from the same place......I guess I'm just a bit crap :p :Oops: :p

Most things work... in the end... after a fashion! Some you lose and some you bin.
Depends, usualy im very good at fixing/building things. But then i might do just one dull thing and i break somthing.
Bit off both, although in recent years more of a fixer thankfully.
Fixer, only ever killed a 8K3A+
a bit of both too. Early on it was always break but now things seem to get fixed more often
fixer - only thing i thought I'd killed was an old jetway P4 mobo - turns out it just didnt like my generic ram!
always end up being the one to fix our school linux server - (a group of us 6th form geeks admin it) cos the rest of them always break it!

Unless its unfixable, and then i'll fix it with a sledgehammer :D

I went for "Bit 'o Both" because the only reason i haven't wrecked the system i have is because Mike helped me build the thing step by step :)
Only thing I've killed is an MSI KT3 mobo, no great loss :D
I usually fix stuff till it breaks and the fix it again :)
not killed anything yet *touch wood* and fixed (read: bodged to working) a fair bit, including an Oki printer using a piece of card and a magnet :)
BOTH: you get so much better at fixing things if you break them first :)
I'm a avid non-follower of the adage "if it ain't broke don't fix it" ... that's what upgrading is all about.
.... however, my current lack of patience with all things PC owing to the sheer number of technical support calls (outside of work) technical support queries within work (in addition to my current job) means I usually find it less stressful just to buy an upgrade than fix a problem with the current one :)
You can't do anything on PC's these days without having to configure/troubleshoot/update - even playing a new game takes some time to find the optimum configuration ... argh I sometimes wonder if having a console would be easier ;)

I fix things, and I'm pretty good at it, but it can go wrong, then it will go wrong...it's not Murphey's law, it's mine...
Woke up this morning pressed the On button on the tele........POP. Hope its a fuse :(
More of a fixer but have done my fair share of breaking...of which i mostly end up fixing.
Well my PC just broke again - but now it's fixed again.
I'm thinking of editing my thread starter to reflect the "a bit of both" vote now. I've not had much luck this last 10 days!
Bit of both, because once I trip and snap the card in two I have to get it fixed then don't I ;) :D

i seem to be good at fixing stuff in work (well, its sort of my job, so i should be really)
but not so lucky at home - not that i "break" things, but things don't always go as smoothly as they sometimes could
its probably cos the machines at work only come in about 4 types & once you've done one you've done em all, whereas stuff at home is always different .....thats my excuse & i'm sticking with it guv'nor :D
Generally a fixer most of the time but when it comes to computers it can be a bit touch and go :D
I spend my whole life taking stuff apart and trying to work out how it works, hence my interest in computers :)

By and large I get things fixed when the PCs go wrong at home. I try to avoid the global fix of 'open cmd prompt, type "format c:" '
One of the things I have done at home is to use a small 10 Gig drive to house the operating system and to use the main drive for everything else. Building in some more resiliency to my data by having it on a completely seperate hardware device. I also have an external 20 Gig Firewire hard drive which I use for backing up critical (to me anyway) data that is held on the c: drive with the operating system.
Thinking about it the only thing i can remember not eventually fixing was a Cisco switch that had lost it's checksum and wouldn't boot. While casting around for information I found that it was a fatal error and the switch was now a paperweight. So I wash my hands of that one :p
I break things which are fixed.
