Korky seems suspiciously absent...leaving us to shout things like...
What about Windows!!!???
Which is a very good point.
I'd still go OEM, what points a 3 year warrenty when the average lifespan of a chip is less than 2 (and decreasing)?

Go to your newsagents and buy Micromart. Get a PC for £70 the kinda spec you looking for mail order. Based around a Athlon XP 1700+ - Athlon XP 2100+ no monitor no software.
Yo *whistles* Korky. Over here....
I have an old sys ! 700mhz... has mandrake on it... onboard sound. Will bung an Geforce 440 mx.. no monitor...
Aww.. who am i kidding I KNOW I still love it. Was going to suggest you get somebodies last rig <- will be better than my last one.. take the excess and furnish your pocket :)
There are some cheap Durons to be had :)
1600 Duron £27 inc vat
erm, something i did a while back for a college project. it was designed as an internet PC for college use, nothing fancy, but it is £199, which leaves you £50 or so to swap n change some parts, bigger monitor maybe, and a £20 dvd drive (college machines dont tend to have them, not sure why :/) just an idea to show what was possible :>

(blurred bit was my address :p not missing anything)
thats all on ebuyer.com btw, and as for an OS, linux is ideal if you want free, and you only plan on doing music/internet/films/etc, plenty of people here to help set it up.
Arsen, that may well be useful as a cooker! Add a HSF just to be on the safe side!
Why not buy the bits second hand, these forums can surely help you with the bits?
