No experience of bang and olufsen lol. Asked this question on another forum too. Both forums said pretty similar things so it looks like I should be getting some hands on time with the g400 and g500.
Thanks everyone for your replies.
Well, when you think about it, there's no hiding from it. It's silly money for a mouse. I mean any of the supermarkets have their budget options, and they would actually do the job. But when you're spending that kinda surplus money it gets subjective. It's gotta be right. I guess the best way to guage whether it's worth it is trying them out physically? I'm not sure how easy that is but I'm sure some computer shops will have them in stock.
I had a go on a friend's razer and the build quality is lovely on his deathadder. The rubber coating material felt amazing, and his has held up pretty well. He's had it for years now and it's still going strong. In contrast I thought £40 was ridiculous money for a mouse. But the amount of mice I've been through in the last couple of years amounts to a razer anyway. £25 Microsoft mouse, £15 Gigabyte gaming mouse, all of which were either unreliable after a year or creaked and felt like they were made of super cheap brittle plastic. Wish I just went with the razer to begin with now.
Obviously if you're getting something for gaming then you'll be using it a lot and you might aswell put in that extra tenner or so to get something you want.
As you have already tried the G9x I say get one of those, I use one it's a good mouse.
It has on the fly dpi, weights and interchangeable hand grips.
Also the build quality is good and Logitech have great customer service.
Well yeah you may be right, but I'd rock a set of Sennheiser HD25s over a set of Bose any day of the week.
It's not so much what's cool or not. It's just what you want. fortunately I had the opportunity to try out the razer and it won me over. It was really comfortable and for me at least performed like the premium product I expected it to be, and yeah it looks great, nothing wrong with that. When you get monstrosities like this:
which is £70 btw then yeah it is literally just cashing in on the CoD franchise.
I got my first MX518 at the start of 2006. It's still going strong now. Carry it with my laptop. Liked it so much I got another MX518 last feb for my current gaming machine. Re-building the lounge PC and that's getting the G400. I've never spent more than £25 on a mouse, and I've never had one break (crappy OEM ones excluded)
I must have rotten luck then! In 2007 I bought the Microsoft optical mouse because it's supposed to be reliable. It died in a year with light use. After that I used a cheapy supermarket one, which still works great, just didnt feel 'special' in anyway. Proper no frills, but wanted something gaming orientated so came the gigabyte, which I thought looked alright enough from play. Which was pants on all accounts.
The Cyborgs are just way too garish for me, The logitechs (without the stupid branding) look fine, but nothing special. On this occasion the Razer ticked all the boxes, understated, sleek comfortable and seemingly made with very nice materials. To be fair the warcraft edition razer mouse looks hideous too.
You like what you like. If we all liked the same thing then it'd get boring.
my G400 arrived today. Whoop whoop
This is a bit of an aside, but I once hired a car to get from London to the Scottish Highlands. I booked a class c) Ford Focus 1.6 or equivalent, and guess what I was given when I turned up....
.... yep a Subaru Impreza 4WD!! It went like the clappers (and no, it wasn't an upgrade, that was their class c) car ) It would get 0-60mph from a standing start up a hill and not even be out of 3rd gear or overrevving. I just wish there'd been a disused airfield or similar nearby to our cottage. That thing flew round the country roads even in sub-zero conditions and laughed at the icy conditions. My friend nearly spannered his car on ice trying to follow. They may be ugly cars, and presumably a mare to insure, but having driven one, I can see some of the appeal. Classy isn't the adjective I'd use to describe them. Awesome driving fun is more like it. (For the record I hate Razer mice and do not own Bench clothing btw)
I'd feel slightly dumb having something emblazoned with a game name on any peripheral! and having a look now that includes Razer's own horrific; razer 'BF3 edition', 'Star Wars' or it's equally ridiculous 'Starcraft' and 'Dragonage 2' edition (just found them on the razer site btw).
I'm not sure what the normal rrp of a G9X is, but I feel it's a bit of a cop out for any manufacturer to employ a 'limited edition' franchise strategy just to shift units. Frankly, I think it just looks tacky and will be dated in a year or two when MW4 comes out, same with the prolific Razer range. I'm assuming it's to play on young gamers' minds to part with their cash. From a design perspective it completely ruins the original aesthetic form of the product. Take all that crap off the g9x and it would be fine, but still a little chunky for my own personal tastes.
I've got no beef with any manufacturer, it's the fan boi mentality of the consumers that baffles me. Why the need to hate on everything else? Have you actually tried said product out for yourself? I think I know the answer; "it's overrated, over hyped and over priced". Well pat yourself on the back for making the right choice and not getting sucked into the marketing spiel.
At the end of the day so long as that product works for the customer then ultimately that's all that matters. If it's good marketing and it's a good product then you're onto a winner. This doesn't apply to the game editions. The pet peev with them is that it's a blatant paint job or sticker to say 'YEARGH, if you like this game then you MUST GET THIS IT'S THE ULTIMATE', and as I stated before it's to the detriment of the original product itself.
There seems to be quite a lot of Razer hate here. I don't know what this is all about, I just bought one on the back of actually trying it out and the fact I like the look, design and build of the thing! Everything else just looked and felt a bit clunky.
And for the record I didn't even know Razer before this (Havent been into the PC enthusiast thing for long) so it's a bit of a surprise, but I still would have got one regardless of the hate
Whilst I know there'll always be mockery from all loyalists of their respective brands I think it's a little petty. I'm sure the Logitech is probably really good but that doesn't mean the razer is pants.
is a logitech mx1000 laser mouse any good or shall i get it replaced? with a propper gaming mouse such as the g700??????
