P4 help.. pc not booting!

Hi all

I just built my mate's new P4 pc:

- P4 2.5GHz 400FSB w/ Stock HSF
- Abit IS7-E Rev1.02
- 256MB x 2 TwinMOS PC3700
- Hitachi S-ATA HDD
- Sapphire 9550
- Antec Sonata w/ 380w PSU
- Pioneer DVD writer

the computer doesn't boot, no beeps
checked all fans are working ok, all cables ok

tried swapping the RAM with my Mushkin PC3500 Lvl2 but nothing
cleared CMOS, removed batt etc also nothing

what could be the problem?

pls help my mate is not talking to me

Could be a dead mobo?
Try booting without anything in, no cpu, g/c or ram. If it beeps like crazy then it's alive and you can slowly eliminate everything else. If the board doesn't beep like crazy without a CPU in (I had a dead mobo the otherday) then its a dead mobo.
Stupid question but you haven't screwed the mobo onto the mobo tray have you?

You have got the standoffs between the board and the tray havent you?
Another thing I thought of, duff PSU maybe (highly unlikley but it's worth a try)
Try testing all your kit in other machines, if you can, you've eliminated the RAM, try the CPU, g/fx card, psu etc in different machines, you might find the problem easily.
Have you cleared the CMOS?
If not, try it.
Make sure the clear CMOS pins are in the correct place. I once got a mobo where the clear CMOS pins were set to clear so when I pressed power button, nothing. Took alot of head scratching and manual reading until I realised it was that!

yeap used the mobo standoffs.. i regularly build pcs for my mates.. no probs so far but this one is odd..

just tried to boot without the cpu & ram.. mobo powers up, leds are lit but still no beep.. shouldn't be a duff psu as the case is new..

i dont know mate.. im the one who built the pc.. but my mate insisted to help.. he did put the cpu the correct way but the pins don't fit the socket properly.. aaah blame meself i should have checked it before placing the hsf!

Ive seen this

when the pins look like its slotted home but are actually a millimetre or 2 out

the bad thing is that the socket arm shuts ok
