No Fault Foiund RMA @scan Some help and advice please

Right in july i found a problem with my xfx 750w pro psu so i sent it back to scan to be tested.

I explained that the fault was intermittent and that if i moved the case sometimes i would power up the pc and all the fans would flash on spin for a millisecond and then nothing and that i was not happy as if there is a loose connection that could blow my pc up. I had an asus motherboard which had already blown some mosfets so was hoping it would be a simple RMA and new psu sent out.

So they tested it not in the way i asked but tested it and found no fault so i asked for a retest and specifically asked for the psu to be removed from the power turned on it side and tested and such. I never recieved another email after that (about 25th july) i moved house and kind of completely forgot about it as i had replaced my psu so i wouldnt be without a pc.

On tuesday i recieved an email saying that if i didnt pay the NFF fee my psu would be binned on the 30th so i phoned up and paid the fee was told £24 but invice says £12 this after paying £12 to send it back to them in july.

Thursday my psu turned up at work so today i opened up my pc and plugged it in with the psu on its side outside of my case and BAM fans light up fans spins for a sec and nothing at all happens if i turn the power off at the back of the psu let the power dissipate and it goes back on again,

So i turned the psu onto its other side gave it a little shake and she works, Obviously i thought this is intermittent so i turned it back over give it a little shake and she doesnt work again. Obviously scans testing was not very thorough as i have managed to replicate my fault 3 times in under 5 minutes,

For those that don't understand what i mean i have uploaded a video of it to youtube link below showing the exact problem.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvWDo...ature=youtu.be

So Really what can i do about this its clearly got a loose connection somewhere and i am not prepared to use it in my pc as it's pretty high end. So what is my next move i have now incurred the original cost of the psu about £70 plus now £24 in postage costs and The fee for not finding a fault.

Also please guys i DO NOT want this turned into a bash fest about scan i just want some advice on what to do i know they test alot of things and replicating an intermittent fault can be hard but i really would like something done

INcidentally if someone from scan wants to jump in then the RMA number was 249051

The returns team will be back on Wednesday, so if you can ring - and forward the details via the website - they'll be able to look into this further for you. Please be patient however as there is likely to be a backlog to go through.

Well that does look like a PSU fault there! Shocking really, musnt have noticed your email or something .

Best thing todo as david mentioned, call them up after wednesday be patient though with the backlog so may take a week or so to actually get it all arranged(no idea on times this is a random figure).

Also make sure that you request the NFF and postage charges to be refunded when you get the PSU replaced as that isnt on if there is actually a fault which you rightly showed in the video!.

Good luck getting it all sorted!

not sure why you should be back of the list, more like bumped to the top if they got it wrong.

Their policy, last time I had to find out, was that if their NFF discovery was proved wrong within 1 month, they would refund the fee.

I should know, I was effectively cheated out of £35 under it.

Anyway, thinking about it, that should mean that you've got until about January 22nd to get it back to Scan again - assuming they're definitely going to find it to be faulty this time around. I can't honestly believe that they're going to claim it's from the original testing date, since it's been in their possession all this time and any new damage would had to have been caused by them, but I don't know the exact terms so that may be how they do it.

Definitely check when you get in touch since it may affect how you play it.

it should be from the point i paid the fee which was tuesday this week,

My main concern is what if i send it back and then they cant get it to replicate the problem as they failed to do so last time around after 2 lots of testing, Do i then get stumped with another No fault found fee on top of the first one.

I doubt they would not be able to replicate it after watching that video, i would personally get a pc shop to certifiy it aswell, sent a valid recipet along with the psu back, this way not only to you have your video proof but also a shop which has tested it. I would doubt scan are going to fob you off, i had the same issue with a dvd drive, ended up doing exactly what you did and scan offered a replacement item.

    Good luck chap

Same with me on the Radeon 6850 GFX card I had from them last year with my new build. They said the card was not faulty, yet I tried it in two PC's and bought a brand new PSU.

I was going to suggest to Dan that possibly he had something shorting the motherboard in the case as I've seen that before, but then I saw he had another PSU mounted in the PC so that can't be the problem if that other PSU is working.

i thought that initially when i had the first issue with the psu but since then new case and 3 different motherboards and it did the same with all, And as you see in the video it doesnt work until you turn it over and shake it and then to replicate the fault again you turn it over give it a light shake and no longer working.

i even tried covering all the unused connectors with electrical tape at one point in case one of them was shorting on the case too.

i think the problem with RMA sometimes can be that they do a standard test on things and weird or obscure problems dont always show up under those tests.

Hopefully scan will sort this out for me after Xmas though

One would hope they'd sort it out, because right now it does make Scan look a bit silly.

Never had an issue with Scan but it does beg the question on how the hell did they not notice this fault in the first place, I would guess they did not go though with the request of how to test the PSU in the first place to end up with a faulty PSU and a £24 charge on top is a damned poor show.

according to my rma page on the scan site it was turned 8 times and powered on without issue so no idea how it passed the test.
