I use isopropyl alcohol where water is undesirable or insufficient. It's often sold in tiny quantities at a ridiculous price for cleaning spectacle lenses etc. Doesn't seem to do any damage.
I bought a litre on eBay quite cheaply.
Don't even think of using white spirit though.
My X4 needs a clean too, but I don't know whether to go for some compressed air, and/or taking off the keys...
@OP does your keyboard type the same as it did before? I'm worried that the keys won't go back on properly, and might be a little wobbly
edit: just tried it now, and it seems alright. Gonna get some compressed air as well I think, unless my Dyson will clean better with all of the keys off (thinking it will be closer to the dirt, as for the test I only took off 5 keys on the bottom row)
I dread to think about what lurks underneath my keys...
Does the space bar come off and on easily? I've heard that it can go back on and feel 'wobbly'
