Why not TwinMOS match memory in NF7-S?

Does anyone know why OcUK advised against using TwinMOS matched memory as a dual channel solution on the NF7-S or maybe Nforce2 boards in general. I notice OcUK have stopped stocking TwinMOS but I see this RAM sold by Komplett. It's been reviewed here on Hexus and it has better than average latency and timings for the price when compared with Corsair Value or Crucial.

    Two reasons I am asking

    a) I'm running this stuff with manufacturers timings at 200fsb on the NF7-S so you just kind of wonder what all the fuss was about assuming there was some fuss at some point.

    b) Got a M8 looking to buy 1GB (2x512) matched pair but not much money to spend on premium RAM. So it's a choice between Corsair Value, Crucial and TwinMOS and on the face of it TwinMOS looks the better deal at CAS2.5

Apparently theres a problem between the newer twinmos memory and the nf7-s, not sure what it is though.

It is not just a problem limited to abit NF7-S's though, all nforce2's i believe do have some compatibility issues. I know for sure asus also have the same problems.

DFI nforce2 boards do seem to be compatible with the least brands of RAM.

Looks like this is a good alternative

    GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) PC3200 Value Dual Channel Kit CAS2.5 (GE1GB3200BDC) (MY-005-GL)

Is there an official recommended list of compatible RAM for the NF7-S. I know Crucial is guaranteed to work but was looking for something with a CAS2.5 and reasonable timings on a budget.

Here is nVidia's own list: http://www.nvidia.com/content/nForce...patibility.asp

£130 seems like a more reasonable price for 1GB of RAM. I'd be interested to hear what others think of the above memory.

Just need to find out if they're any good now. I'm a little reluctant to spend the best part of £300 on Corsair

That official list of RAM is mostly stuff I've never even heard of before and quite likely I cannot find to buy even if I wanted to. Thanks for the linkwas good of you.

Is 2.9v within acceptable limits for the Corsair value RAM. Is that just good luck or fairly typical results for the Crucial value RAM?

Sorry to be a pain but performance RAM is just soooooooooo expensive!! Don't CPUcity have some undervolted mobile RAM that will go like stink... DDR400-M

My limited experience with Twinmos memory and NF7: I've got two sticks of 512mb PC3200 with M-tec chips which run just fine, and two sticks with chips just marked Twinmos which give all sorts of errors, the most common being crashing to desktop in games.

TwinMOS use all sorts of chips on their PCBs.
Winbond,Hyundai & m-tec all seem to work whereas TwinMOS chops on TwinMOs PCB has given some problems
I've got to say that Geil doesn't have a tremendous name on nForce2 & anything with Value in it is a bad sign for overclocking on nForce2.

Only wanting to increase the FSB from 166 to 200 on a locked 2500+ so the memory will not be overclocked. Just wondering what 'value' RAM has the best CAS/timings and is known to be good with NF7-S. If manufacturers keep changing their chip supplier and value RAM can be GOOD or BAD depending on luck of the draw I would be inclined to buy from Crucial. Probably try some Corsair value and see how well they work.

I seem to be doing ok with it
