    ASUS P8Z68-V Pro USB3 Problem

The 'front panel' USB3 ports attached to the blue, 20 pin header USB3-34 are not working on my motherboard. I've tried USB2 sticks, a mouse and an IcyBox USB3 external drive. No recognition whatsoever but power is there as LEDs on the devices light up. The rear, motherboard mounted USB3 ports are fine.

USB3 is enabled in the BIOS and I've checked that the unused Black PCI Express X16_3 slot is set to 'Auto' in accordance with the user manual. Tried various versions of the ASMedia driver and updated the BIOS - made no difference. Not sure whether the problem is the adaptor cable for the supplied expansion slot bracket (extremely unlikely as both sockets are dead for both USB2 and USB3 devices), a dead header, or something I've overlooked.

Some reviews of this motherboard say that the 'front panel' USB3 ports have their own ASMedia USB3 Controller but Device Manager only shows one. Everest goes one step further and shows two USB3 ports attached to this single controller and hub. Inserting USB sticks confirms that these are the two rear panel ports, so it seems to me that one ASMedia USB3 Controller is missing entirely. Sysinfo shows sharing but no actual conflicts.

I'd be grateful if anyone who has this board could confirm for sure that I should be seeing two ASMedia XHCI Controllers and two USB Root Hubs (for USB3) in Device Manager.

    Thanks.

Re: ASUS P8Z68-V Pro USB3 Problem

So sorry to bump an old thread but I have exactly the same problem with my P8Z68-V borad. The USB3 header that's connected to my front panel USB3 sockets don't work anymore. They used to work, but found out today thay they refuse to work. When I plug a USB card reader, the light on the reader blinks (which is a normal behaviour) but nothing happens... have you resolved this issue?
    cheers

Re: ASUS P8Z68-V Pro USB3 Problem

Sorry, only just been notified of your post.

In my case it turned out that the controller was dead and the board had to be RMA'd. The new one is fine.

The essential is point is that Device Manager (or something like Everest) should show two ASMedia USB3 Controllers; the faulty board only showed one.

    Hope this helps.
