    Webcam

Looking to buy myself a webcam this weekend. I'm not sure what is good and what is rubbish so i'd like a little bit of advice. I'd just use it for MSN and stuff, nothing serious.
    Cheers

    id get a cheap(ish) one

you dont need a full on digicam, if its for msn its generally pretty low quality and any cam should be good enuff for that, id say any old one for 15-20 will do you fine, as suggested logitech are a good make and do good cams, but there are quite a few webcms on the market

dont spend much more than 30 id say, unless you want something of good quality for filming stuff on, most of them do the same thing

Well, budget is about £30, Don't really need one of those Digicams that are like £800, just one of them cheap ones that sit on top of your monitor.
Sorry for being a bit vague!

Do you have a digital cam at all?

I have a logitech webcam but my gf has a Fuji M603 Digital Camera. Because of the better lens on the digital camera, using it in webcam mode rocks.

Just a suggestion anyway - may save you buying a pants webcam...

I have an IXUS 500 - not sure if it can be used as a webcam?

Generally look for one with a CCD camera rather than CMOS, if you want the best image quality.

I think the Logitech Pro uses CCD, though it costs £50+, which you may find a little too much for just a webcam.

Just found this on the Canon website:

Can I use my digital still camera as a webcam?

    Solutions

No, this is not possible. Canon digital cameras do not have webcam functionality implemented.

Go with Aarons suggestion of a CCD based webcam

Well, I have got a Sony TRV 14E Digital Camcorder, not too sure if it can be used as a webcam though. I might have a dig around in the manual later. If it doesn't i'd be better off with a CCD based webcam like the Logitech Pro, correct?

If you have TV IN on your graphics card or a TV card with composite input you should be fine. If not get a cheap tv card from fleabay and have a webcam and tv

Is there a problem with webcams by just artificial light? My digital camera doesn't like doing webcam too much when its only by my bedroom light, as it just shows a really dark image. Do most webcams cope well with darker conditions?
