    XP 3200+ running hot

hey all, first time posting here...

I recently upgrade my system to nice shiny new XP3200+ along with an MSI K7N2-Delta L mobo, and an akasa 824cu HSF

Having applied the artic silver and slapped the bits on the board, my temps idle are about 45-50 degrees and active at 55-65 degrees. System temp is about 35 degs.

Now, ive upgraded from an old P4 1.7 GHz and havent got much of an idea of what temps this meaty athlon should be running at, but i get the feeling its waaay too hot.

What i want to know is 3 things:

    1) Are those temps too hot?

    2) Is my HSF up to the job?

    Link to HSF Info

    3) Do you think i should try reapplying the AS and refitting the fan?

    I await your respected replies

Looks like your HSF is only rated to 3000+ for a start
Id say its hot yes, hotter than id be happy with. Your not in danger of buring it out anytime soon though.
Whats your case / system cooling like ?

Reapplying the AS and HSF is always worth a go. Also blow out any dust thats collected in the fins of the HSF

Try not to put too much AS on as its only meant to fill the tiny holes inbetween your cpu and your hs.Applying to much can effect the temps as well.As long as your pc is running stable and isnt crashing I wouldn't worry too much.Tho I would like to have seen them about 5 degs lower.

Are those diode temps or socket?
If diode fine, if socket a bit too high.

I ran an XP2500@3200 on an 824 for a while - it will do it but you are at the upper edge. Also 35C system seems a bit (3-5C or so) high - hot day or can you improve airflow in your case?

    my case is the H600b

    link to case info

the flow seems ok, but to give it a tiny edge i recently took to shoving a desktop fan next to it during the hot summer days ^^

hmm.. ill try reapplying the HSF, and if thats not gonna shift it, i reckon ill start looking at grabbing a better HS

by the way, how do you find out if its a diode temp or a socket?
im just reading from bios (ive also tried using the PCAlert4 software with the mobo) and i am not sure where its getting those readings from tbh.

The HSF is pretty much brand new so theres no dust to worry about here.
as for improving airflow.. only thing i can think of right now is grabbing another case fan, since there is a slot free.

oh, one more thing.. its been a very hot few days... for the UK

as i mentioned before, im not used to big athlons like this so i was terribly afraid that is was waaay too hot. if its about 5+ degs over acceptable, then i suppose i dont have to be so paranoid. I keep checking the temp every so often in fear ^_^. The system hasnt shutdown on me yet.. but id rather not get to that stage i guess.

just out of interest, is there any HSF systems you would defo reccomend for this 3200+ from OCUK? Its just down the road from me really, so i dont pay delivery. Somthing not too complicated or costly would be nice, im not very fussed about the noise levels tho, since my drives make more of a racket

    hmmm, much to think about...

those temps are a-ok man - i used to run my 2800+ @3200 speeds with temps of 60 degrees C without issue..now its half that with my hydrocool tho =)

Also as you said its been mega hot here [30+ degrees] which will obviosly have an effect, my temps have rised 10 dgrees over the past week, approaching 40[!!!]

my 2000 used to run at about 50 idle 60 load although it did have a crappy heatsink on, never had any crashing problems though.

My cpu temps are in the 50 range normally, But then It's an xp-m 2600+ cpu (running at 2.0Ghz) with an SLK-947U heatsink in an old Cyrix Desktop ATX case, Other temps(CPU included) are in the mid 30s and this is at full load too. And this is My 2nd PC, My 1st PC has a CPU Temp in the High 30s(2.0Ghz too), Is in a Tower Case and uses an SP-97 heatsink, Both use AS2 of course.

See My specs for More info in My Sig.
