It will only be available from their own web store.

Although I have generally not got a use for such a device, how can I say no to not buying one? They are very cool bits of kit by the looks of things, especially running xbmc

Does any one think it would be powerful enough to run an emulator like GIMX ?

Re: XBMC running on Raspberry Pi

I finally got my RPi on Wednesday via RS components after getting my invite to order on Friday. I registered my interest on release day at about 6:02 am, so it's taken a while!

I tried OpenElec on Wed afternoon, with limited success, it was freezing often and with a sluggush GUI as reported. I updated to a newer build yesterday, and gave it a quick try and got on much better.

I tried some DVDs encoded to x264 which played fine, as did a BBC HD cap of The Hour I recorded when it aired. I tried an MKV remux of one of my Blu-rays with AVC, also played fine from what I tested. I tried another MKV remux with VC-1 which was allegedly playing, but I got a blank screen only.

This was all through my TV, my inital tests weren't giving an image via my AVR to the TV, so I need to retry.

Great for watching videos - absolutely useless at being used as a PC with a GUI for anything productive...

    Yep.

The chip on Pi is basically a set-top box chip. It's got a "high end" GPU as far as mobile GPUs go, and the CPU is pretty much the same as the iPhone 1, albeit at 50% higher clock speeds.

So XBMC is what it's *designed for*

I've seen versions of Linux running nicely on it. The CPU isn't that low powered, just low powered by today's standards.
