    Re: epson 7880 service manual

    Thanks for advice
I haven't got any other cartridges yet - only bought the printer with some inks in.
I was thinking that maybe something to do with pressure, as the pupms spin constantly, with 2 second intervals. Even 30 mins after printer is powered on still 3 of them keep spinning. thyey sometimes stop during printing and then come back on. It is interesting that it is cyan and magenta which I believe are in the same area of the print head, all other colours are perfect on nozzle check.
I will check the cartridges tomorrow morning,
Many thanks for your help - much appreciated

as you hear the pump you can narrow it down to the pump tube according to the manual

    from the manual

Inspect the following parts, and correct/replace it if there is abnormality.
The pump of the Ink System Unit. (See P.150)
The tube of the pump is disconnected.
The tube of the pump is pressed flat. The tube of the pump is broken.
The cleaning blade of the Ink System Unit
A foreign material is stuck on the blade or the blade is broken.
There is something wrong with the connection of the ink cartridge, ink holder,
    tube, damper, and printhead.
The head FFC is not connected correctly.
WIPER, CLEANER ASSY., ASP. (See P.150)
    Printhead. (See P.147)

    Re: epson 7880 service manual

i took back cover off and basically all three pumps are spinning for a few seconds, then stop for 2secs and spin again for about 3 secs. then the cycle repeats, and goes like that all the time. all looks very clean inside, and all connections look also good. i think maybe to take the right cover off and see if everything is also connected good near cleaning pupms etc.
someone suggested that i can check the cartridges by putting tube one end and immersing them in water and observing if any bubbles are visible ? it seem a bit cheaper than buying new cartridges, especially if printer will be beyond repair but will it be good representation if they are good ?

not heard of that myself but then again we dont do gheto mods in the field

does the pump stop if the ink locks in the unlock setting as that shuts off the supply ?

if ink tray is opened then yes, they all stop. sometimes also after closing the ink tray the pumps are not constantly spinning, but sometimes they come back to constant spinning

    Re: epson 7880 service manual

let me know how you get on!

end of the day even if you brought a duffer epson offer a fixed price repair and will get it working no matter what.

its one hell of a printer so would be worth getting fixed if its beyond your skills

at least its so big its sort of easy to work with.

    Re: epson 7880 service manual

Hi - I have taken the right cover off and inspected everything again.
And - bingo (I hope) - when looking at the printhead from the side, I believe we see the cyan dumper (?) there is a big air bubble in it, I think magenta is right next to it but can't see this one, as cyan is in a way....
I tried to take a photo but with mobile isn't easy to capture it, but the bubble is quite large, probably about 7mm diameter.
what should be the course of action

I sent my 2100 Photo to Epson about a year ago. it was out of warranty and I paid for their guaranteed fix service which was £155. Money well spent IMHO.

    Re: epson 7880 service manual

    several things.

1, previous owner took the damper off (not dumper) trying to figure it out.
2, air is stuck in because the pumps not able to do its job
3, if its still got air in after several cleans then its either.

    1, duff damper (cheapest)
2, duff cartridge (i still say buy a new one)
    3, kinked airline,
    4, kinked ink line
5, bad o-ring where the ink line connects to the damper (normally a pool of ink if thats the case)

can you take a pic of a nozzle check before and after a clean please?

also inspect he cleaning blade on the capping nit and the capping unit seal, long shot but the pics you take b4 and after will tell me a story.
