My HD5850 1GB running at HD5870 1GB speeds seemed to handle Metro2033 at maximum settings fine at 1680X1050 although Crysis2 using DX11 did slow down in some places(there was something weird I noticed with the framerates in the game though). A GTX560TI or HD6950 should fare better in the latter game.
Well both metro2033 and cyrsis2 are known to run better on nvidia
Both are great examples of badly implemented Tessellation which can bring almost any card to it's knees.
In metro 2033 the gtx560ti easily beats the 6870 and is nipping on the heals of the 6950 (the5870 does only slightly better than the 6870)
In crysis2 the gtx560ti out performs the 6950 and isn't far off the 6970 (with the 5870 slightly behind the 6950)
But overall scores put the gtx560ti in the middle between the 6870 and 6950
Cat you should know about the whole debarkle over the rubbish use of tessellation in crysis2, how only a few objects inconsequential have a rather high level of tessellation applied to them and uses gpu calls that favour nvidia over ati
Re: PC Upgrade help needed
So if I wait till the next set of cards come out what card should I buy so I can at least play games I don't have the best monitor at the moment it only supports 1280x1024 but will be getting a bigger monitor soon. Like I said already using a horrid Hd 5450

The HD5850 1GB I have seems to be not too bad for overclocking. It will run fine at HD5870 1GB clockspeeds(850MHZ for the GPU as opposed to 725MHZ and the same memory speeds) and I can get it upto 925MHZ easily too. At 850MHZ I suspect it will be at least HD6870 1GB speed, although I am not certain how it compares to an HD6950 1GB though.
This is the thing I noticed about Crysis2 - if I loaded a new level for the first time, the framerates would be terrible for around a minute and then they levelled out at a higher average. If I reloaded the same level immediately afterwards, the framerates were fine after that. This was using DX11 settings and the Ultra preset without the high resolution package. However,I was using Vista 32 bit with 4GB of DDR2(I know). WTF??
Re: PC Upgrade help needed
Thank you for all your help, I will try to iron out my other issues on my own

Not all the new cards have been released yet,but the ones being released this year totally brand new architectures - at the very least it should mean existing cards will go down in price. BTW,I listed some PSUs in a previous post which you should consider IMHO.

I looked at them and I am seriously considering them. I'm thinking if they will go down in price maybe a cheaper card will hold me out until then
Re: PC Upgrade help needed
I'd say it's definitely worth holding out if you can. AMD's 7800 series could be one to keep an eye out on.
Re: PC Upgrade help needed
I did'nt want to create another Thread, but should I buy from scan? Novatech? or Ebuyer?

Either are fine, and are well known for having good customer service. So the choice is down to who has the best price.

Novatech is cheaper but I read more good things about scan :)
Re: PC Upgrade help needed
Novatech and ebuyer also do free delivery, but only their cheapest option (up to 5 working days, normally less) and only on orders of over £50
I've had to deal with DOA returns with all three now and all 3 have been excellent, novatech was probably best, they did a next day swapout, however that was a while ago and thing might well have changed since (that was for a geforce 6800LE AGP card, to give you an idea of how long ago it was.)
Scan also offer a small charge for and additional 30day warranty thingy, that covers accidental damage/user error.
This is above and beyond normal retail rights, you don't have to use it (remove to remove it if you don't want it) but it's a nice added feature esp for people who are a bit unsure about building a pc.
scansure T&C
