Psu is 500w but has no pci-e power connectors so thats why I need a new psu don't really want to pay over £55 for a psu

    I have a hd 5450 (awful card)

I play Star wars the old republic, soon Guild wars 2, crysis 2 First person shooters so quite alot of high graphic games

You can get an HD6870 or GTX560 for around £130 to £140.

However, this GTX560TI is the best card in your price range:

    http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/c...132_HotUKDeals

These GTX560TI cards have better coolers and a better warranty but cost more:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-GeForce...7846046&sr=8-1

    http://www.dabs.com/products/asus-ge...=gtx560&src=16

The HD6950 1GB costs more than the GTX560TI 1GB and is slightly faster.

However,I would check how much space you have for a graphics card though. The GTX560TI is between 9 to 10 inches long.

I would go with one of the following PSUs:

    http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/c...zs550w-uk.html

    http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/c...550s-ukb9.html

    http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/c...zt550w-uk.html

    The last PSU is modular.

Both Nvidia and AMD cards will work fine with you system. The GTX560TI is a quicker card than a GTX560 or an HD6870. For around £150 it is a good deal, especially as it will run Crysis 2 better.

The HD6950 1GB cards are around £170 to £180 and TBH for that price you might as well spend the extra and get the 2GB model.

Regarding the HD6870 1GB cards you can get an XFX one for around £130:

    http://www.dabs.com/products/xfx-ati...?q=6870&src=16

    However,MSI has a better warranty:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-m...layport-2x-dvi

My mate has the same card and is happy with it. Once you have the free Scan postage it will be a decent price delivered.

However, remember that both AMD and Nvidia are releasing their new ranges over the next few months. It might be worth waiting for a while to see how these perform.

    Re: PC Upgrade help needed

So your saying basically get the GTX560TI

or if I'm willing to extend the budget which I doubt I will do then get the 6950 2gb

thanks for your help I'm not very savvy when it comes to stuff like this.

    Third option!

Wait a few more months?? AMD will have released its full HD7000 range by around April or May IMHO and Nvidia should have released a few of their new Kepler based cards by then!

Hopefully, this will mean the older cards will drop in price too.

Actually, at the moment you can get one of those ASUS cards for less than the stock one here at only £148. Cracking price!

That, looks too good to be true . Especially considering its £1 above the standard 560.

Problem with the third option is that the hd 5450 is a dead card can't handle any games and that just won't do have to get a better graphics card in the pc

Dixons Retail plc, shut down the high street division of their company, commonly know as Dixsons, after they bought Curries and PCWorld. The Dixsons retail brand (i.e. what most people know as dixsons) is just an online retailer now.

That's a great price for that card I've got the same one as at 1680x1050 resolution I've yet to find something it cannot cope with at max settings.
although admittedly I don't play the latest pseudo-military p0rn FPS's, still it happily took the new Deus Ex, Hard Reset (demo), Fallout NV and World of tanks (actually quite GPU heavy with options turned up) in it's stride.

EDIT: Note about XFX and their warranty
The full length of the warranty is handled by the retailer, XFX takes no warranty claims from the end customer, so only buy an XFX product from a retailer you personally trust.

You got a new GPU,Pob?? I think your sig needs an update!!

My HD5850 1GB running at HD5870 1GB speeds seemed to handle Metro2033 at maximum settings fine at 1680X1050 although Crysis2 using DX11 did slow down in some places(there was something weird I noticed with the framerates in the game though). A GTX560TI or HD6950 should fare better in the latter game.
