Re: Suggestions for mouse to replace Logitech G5(suffering from cable design fault)

I would like to add 2 comments from my experience
    1. definitely give the Logitech customer support a go, if they don't reply to the above e-mail then give them a call. I called them and whilst I was still in warranty, they replaced the mouse without requiring the broken one back. They didn't ask me for the details of purchase or anything like that, they just wanted to help me as customer... or at least that's what I left the experience feeling.

    2. Once I had the replacement I thought, 'what the hell' so I took it apart and it was pretty easy to fix. If they don't send you out a replacement then then there is very little harm in giving it a go, I would be surprised if it is particularly complicated

Re: Suggestions for mouse to replace Logitech G5(suffering from cable design fault)

The issue,is that this looks like a design fault which they should have acknowledged. It is on so many forums, and the thing is I might be out of the warranty. Since I didn't realise that a receipt was not required(and that I could contact them directly too),I did not contact Logitech at the time of the first failure especially since it was only evident to me this year it is design/QC fault on their part.

Here was me thinking the second mouse was going to last a few years.

The mice are not fit for the purpose at all and is a fllpping joke that over £60 worth of mice lasted less than a £3 mouse you could get from Asda.

In the e-mail I sent the following link from their own forums:

    http://forums.logitech.com/t5/Mice-H...de/td-p/127836

I can really upload snaps,as the issue is the following:
1.)Mice just randomly cuts out and then reconnects. Sometimes it does not not even reconnect.
2.)Sensitivity just drops to silly low levels, and the the DPI meter at times starts doing funny things.

Re: Suggestions for mouse to replace Logitech G5(suffering from cable design fault)

Logitech just e-mailed me back and they say the consider the mice to be faulty. Now they have asked me for address details, the codes on the mouse and a proof of purchase.

The only issue is that I lost the receipt!! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Did you buy them from staples online or in a store? If online, you might be able to log into the account & print a PDF order?

If not, reply with all the details you have and explain the loss of the receipt - they were understanding in my instance

I bought them in-store. I did tell them in the initial e-mail and the reply that I had lost the receipt, and offered to take pictures of the mice if they wanted any.

It seems I bought them in February 2009:

    http://forums.hexus.net/current-barg...ml#post1635948

They said a warranty exchange is required and the mice are faulty.

The following is the details they required.

"In order to obtain the warranty exchange, we kindly ask that you supply the following information:

    First name:
    Last name:
    Address:
    Postal Code:
    City:
    Telephone Number:
    Proof of purchase/Receipt/Invoice:

    Product M/N:
    Product P/N:
    Product PID or S/N:"

This is the part which worries me a tad:

"Logitech will first be able to assess any warranty claims once all the before mentioned information has been supplied in full. If the warranty claim is accepted you will be duly informed."

Covering themselves with that last statement - just supply as much as you've got and send the ball back to their court. If they say yes, you've lost nothing. If they say no you can always attempt to appeal to their goodwill

If they say no,I think I might be ditching Logitech peripherals for quite a while. Less than 18 months for each mouse on average makes me feel like a grumpy Elk!

Yeah thats pretty much the opposite to my experience with logitech, i still have the MX518 i bought like 7 years ago working like a dream

Was it the only thing you bought from the store that day and did you pay for it on your card? Perhaps you could get the bank statement which shows that specific purchase. Not perfect but its something!

I need to see if can find the bank statement unless I chucked away(it was over three years ago). Maybe I can talk to the bank, but still Logitech must be aware of this issue,as people have even posted hardware fixes on their forums.

TBH,I have spent loads with them:
1.)MouseMan - high end wireless mouse
2.)MX1000(2) -high end laser wireless mouse. Charging station eventually stopped working(need to take it apart and pull out the metal prongs)
3.)G5(2) - high end laser wired mouse
4.)G11 V2 - high end keyboard(one foot did break at a LAN IIRC)
    5.)G15 V2 - high end keyboard
6.)LX710 wireless desktop - one of their more expensive wireless media combinations(USB connection on the receiver is a tad loose -its poorly made)
    7.)V150 - notebook laser mouse
8.)MX518 - didn't use and sold it to someone
9.)MX Air - didn't use and sold it to someone

I have probably bought a few other bits and bobs from them too.

Most mice are out of warranty after 3 years though unfortunately.

Its unfortunate, i do hope they try and honour the agreement though regardless of POP. If you want an alternative try the G400 or if you want to avoid Logitech (understandably, ive migrated away from them also) then id recommend the CM Storm Spawn, awesome mouse and i got it yesterday to replace my G400 (working fine but fancied a change, different style my hand was hurting), they seem to be of quality stuff and the sensor is flawless to me, brilliant pricing aswell the only issue is the cable being quite heavy and sticky (ok when on mouse mat but if the cable hits the desk it is a bit harder to move), apart from that quality all the way down.

18 months is a pretty terrible lifespan for each mouse. Essentially, one mouse lasted from realy 2009 to late 2010. The other one I then opened lasted from that time until February.

Only then did I actually bothered to do some research and see posts such as the following:

    http://forums.logitech.com/t5/Mice-H...de/td-p/127836

This was on their own forums(there were others too), and others too.

I wish I had known I could have dealt with Logitech earlier and even known of the design fault. I might have been able to have done something about the other mouse too.

Out of interest does your G400 have a stiff cable?? It seems the ultra-stiff cable is the prime cause of this issue.
