Not thought about the MS mice TBH(forgot they did gaming mice!),and I think one of my mates has an X5 which seems to have been fine for the last few years too.

That X3 actually matches my G11 and G15 keyboards too!

Re: Suggestions for mouse to replace Logitech G5(suffering from cable design fault)

Avoid the sidewinder x8 if you ever consider it, they are good mice BUT quality is really bad, my first one i got off grey here i believe for an amazing price and it was brilliant for a year i think? Then i had some issue i think the scroll wheel broke (would work intermittently and sometimes when i didnt touch it... imagine how devastating that is in an fps when you suddenly swap weapons!), MS was very quick about replacing it no problem, great stuff i thought but then 3 months after the replacement scroll wheel was on its way out (working but lost 90% of the restriction/resistance) and the right mouse button pretty much died, they again sent another replacement without requiring the mouse back (great no hassle!), the next one was broken on arrival... the sensor was faulty and would skip all the time (tried cleaning made sure nout was in it) on any surface glass/wood/cloth mats etc.

Fine i thought, emailed MS and was told that since id requested more than 2 replacement in the pass that they REQUIRED me to return the mouse to them, now i understand this as its normal in the first place (MS just send out a replacement no questions normally and did the previous times), but then the important deal breaker was that i had to ship it to GERMANY and they wouldnt refund the shipping after, thought well that was bollocks it wasnt my fault you sent me a dud and your QC is terrible, the post was going to be like £15 by the time i sent it and since id had 3 mice break in less than a year i just called it quits and cut my losses.

Cant recall what mouse i had after that but eventually got to the G400 was a nice mouse no issues with it , mouse pads are worn fast though and i cant find where to get original ones. Fancied a change and went to the spawn but its better in everyway IMO, great little mouse and for the price a steal ~£30. I will probably do a review on it later when i get time.

CM make quality gear and really do make the effort to go the extra mile in terms of sourcing great stuff, so it should last a long time. Dont go for razer their QC is bad and support terrible or so im told from a few of my mates who are now Ex razer fans

It seems as you spend more the quality issues seem to get worse!!

How are the Gigabyte mice?? Some of the models seem quite cheap!! The Gigabyte GM-M6880 seems to be quite a cheap laser mouse.

It also seems that my Dell mouse uses a 1600DPI sensor found and probably the same as the first version of the MX518!

It has six buttons and you can get it for around £5 to £6.

the links dead on my end (probably my issue...)http://www.madshrimps.be/articles/ar...#axzz1xIG5q3Ik but its a OCZ-Behemoth-Double-Laser-Gaming-Mouse- yeah? £5 -£6 aint bad at all! I actually have that mouse somewhere only reason stopped using it was that it was a bit big, it was good though. My friend had that gigabyte mouse i personally couldnt recommend it, thought the sensor was pretty bad and overall it wasnt for me but for the price .

No,its the Dell which is £5 to £6,not the OCZ! Considering the Dell is 6 button and uses the same sensor as the first version of the MX518,well made and not too big,it seems a really good budget mouse.

Thanks for the info on the Gigabyte though.

    Here is a picture:

    http://static.clickbd.com/global/cla...0_original.jpg

It has an LED sensitivity readout too. The tracking is good too - no skipping around. OTH,the G9 mice still have the edge in sensitivity and accuracy too. Annoying with FPS games, though!!

not bad then , personally the best budget mice are any MS IE mice, i had a few of them old ones (not the newer ones...) only died after many many years of abuse, well still work but the left button doesnt work 100% of the time unfortunately. Id say grab the dell if its the same as the m518 .

I am using the Dell ATM! But may mates had G9 mice which have twice the DPI,which seems to make a difference(I think).

OTH,I am only using a cheapo mouse mat - will the gaming ones, make any real difference??

no, only notice a difference really when i have a higher end mouse in the first place, mainly the mouse feet which make the difference . I know its not exactly the best but just up the ingame sens or windows setting? Never 1:1 mapping but it may help!.

My mouse area is the top of some chest of drawers with a few knots in the wood. Stop making excuses for your bad performance.

    Oi!!

Well, when the G5 was working I used to do much better. My mates have G9 mice with the funky mousemats. It could be like what Hicks12 said, the feet, which on the Dell means it takes more effort to move around as they are less smoother.

What I will do is get some teflon tape and replace the current feet, It should make it move more freely then!

Re: Suggestions for mouse to replace Logitech G5(suffering from cable design fault)

Looks like Logitech is cutting jobs:

    http://www.tomsguide.com/us/Logitech...ews-15490.html

On Thursday Logitech International said that it's eliminating approximately 450 positions, or 13-percent of its worldwide non-direct-labor workforce. Logitech expects that reduced personnel-related costs will represent an estimated 60-percent of the approximately $80 million savings in annual operating costs. 100 of those jobs to be eliminated will be within the U.S.

The news arrived in an announcement stating that Logitech expects to record pre-tax charges in the current fiscal year of approximately $35 million associated with the company’s previously announced restructuring. Logitech said it's restructuring to simplify the organization, to better align costs with its current business, and to free up resources to pursue its growth opportunities.

"The restructuring is expected to yield approximately a net $80 million reduction in annual operating costs," the company said. "The reduction will begin to benefit the company in the second half of Fiscal Year 2013 with the full savings expected to be achieved in Fiscal Year 2014."

Approximately $32 million of the restructuring charges are expected to be recorded in the first quarter of Fiscal Year 2013, ending June 30, 2012, Logitech said. The largest component of the restructuring charge will be cash charges related to a workforce reduction.

Logitech's annual profit and revenue have dropped by double-digit percentages in three of the past four years. The company said back in April that it planned a complete overhaul, to eliminate a layer of business and sales executive management, and streamline its organization. Moves were expected to be completed by June, its first fiscal quarter.

Company spokeswoman Nancy Morrison said on Friday that the jobs to be eliminated "are scattered through various parts of the company."

"As we announced in April, this organizational streamlining, along with our strategy to deliver fewer but more compelling products, should position Logitech for renewed growth and profitability," said Bracken Darrell, Logitech president. "While we are saddened by the departure of many colleagues, the restructuring is necessary for our future success."
I wonder how the competition are doing,ie,are they seeing the same issues or are they winning sales away from Logitech??

Re: Suggestions for mouse to replace Logitech G5(suffering from cable design fault)

yeah the fireglider aint a bad mouse, personally prefer this current cm storm to it by far mind. If on a budget its not bad, believe it was a rebrand of the a4-tech or something?.

After e-mailing them again, they have told me to send the mice back. After they checked them they will send a warranty replacement if the issues are confirmed.

Will post back on how it goes!

A bad workman always blames his tools. Swap mice next time you're down and I'll still kick your arse at a game of your choosing!*

Tbh though I don't find high dps mice all they're cracked up to be. I only ever switch the mouse between 800-1000 dpi iirc depending if I'm in Windows or Debian, simply due to their differing default mouse settings, I don't recall ever switching DPI for gaming! I bought my G9 for the adjustable weights+grips and decent build quality more than anything else. I'd be perfectly happy with one of those Dell mice, apart from the fact that that the feet on them are crap, they scrape rather than slide over surfaces!

I do however swear by a decent mouse surface, going from just the desk to a gaming mousemat massively improved tracking. Cheap mousemats are no better than a desk, that goes for both plastic and fabric imho. I've got no idea about hard topped gaming mousemats but a decent cloth mousemat is my weapon of choice. The downside to cloth mousemats is that they do accumulate dirt/grease, even if they don't look dirty - I stick mine in with the washing occasionally and mouse movement becomes noticeably less sticky!

In your case I'd stick with the Dell and just buy some replacement PTFE mouse feet and a decent mousemat. The SteelSeries Surface QcK mats are reasonably priced on Amazon, at least in comparison to some gaming mats!
