Lines Across Screen - Help/Advice?

Hey Guys,

When playing games I get a small line across the top 3rd of my middle monitor (connected via DVI) I don't have any problems with the side monitors, I have turned vSync on in both my GPU and Game settings but the line is still there..... anyone got any ideas on how to get rid of it?

Have you tried swapping one of the side monitors with it. If you get the same line on that then its pc related. If you still get it when its a side monitor then i would say its monitor related. If it goes away when its a side monitor then that's just odd.

I would hook it up to another machine or try a vga cable/dvi or hdmi etc.

All games ? Does it happen in 2d ? Swapped the cables around ?
Sounds like a driver / software issue.

After a few tests this evening I seem to have narrowed it down to using a DVI cable from my GPU to my monitor as the cause of the problem. My only problem here is that the only other port on my GPU is HDMI but I don't have a HDMI port on my monitors

No doubt I am going to need some sort of converter, does anyone have any ideas about what I should be looking for?

As you're only running a "single link" resolution, a simple passive HDMI to DVI adapter will be fine. You could also just buy a HDMI to DVI cable and that'll work too to save your desk from extra mess from an adapter.

So is it doing it on more than one DVI cable? and what about to the other screens. Is it the cable GPU DVI socket or screen DVI socket?

Still getting the same proble with the new HDMI to DVI cable.... Not really sure what it could be tbh.

Which ever monitor isn't using a displayport connection suffers from these lines, I have moved it from my middle screen to one of the side ones buts it just one of them things that bugs me lol!

So it seems you have narrowed it down to the dvi port on the gpu then.

O wonder if a duff connctor in the port could cauese this though you would think it wwould have a more significant affect than one line or pixels.

I would take the gpu out and wipe the contacts and blow the socket.
If you have a second pci express slot try thay. Then if thay has no effect see if there is a firmware update. Also you could try it in a differenr machine to be sure.

Yup that was what the test was designed to figure out. Good suggestions for follow ups.
