    Trackballs?

When I'm not gaming, I'm busy on HEXUS. My right hand moves around a lot between mouse and keyboard, although I try to use the keyboard as much as possible, it's impossible to use a browser quickly without a pointing device.

So, are trackballs good for reducing wrist movement? I borrowed a top of the range Logitech off a mate once, but couldn't get to grips with it in games. However, this time, if I were to get one, I'd stick with a mouse for FPS stuff.

    Recommendations?

    Cheers,
    Kez.

I've used only Logitech trackballs and I love them.

First was a wired "TrackMan II", needed the occasional clean of the pins holding the ball in.
Next was the "TrackMan Marble", another wired one, but a lot more responsive and accurate, with less cleaning.

My current one is the cordless TrackMan with no ring to hold the ball in place, it just pops out when pushed from below - another patterned ball for very accurate, smooth input.
Has 2 buttons and the scroll wheel/button 3 in the middle.

I absolutely hate using regular mice now, and I use this cordless trackball for FPS's too - can do 180 degree spins incredibly fast once you get to grips with it.

One thing is key when using trackballs - get a comfortable wrist position or you may find you ache after a while.
Beauty is, it can sit on your knee, at any angle, metres away from the monitor...

    Cordless TrackMan Wheel here.

Oh, and one trick I found is that if someone wants to use your PC that can't use trackballs, plug in a regular PS/2 mouse and just push it to one side - if you're using WinXP both mice can operate the cursor at the same time

I've used one for years at home & at work. Great for CAD work & DTP. I've had the same logitech trackman wheel for yonks now, still going strong.
For games tho, nothing beats my MX700, I found the trackball to be way over sensitive.

    Ugh!
I can't use the trackballs with the ball in the centre at all, they are a nightmare to use - I think you're meant to navigate with your middle finger (or 3 fingers?) and use your thumb and little fingers for the buttons either side.
    *shudder*

We had a few arrive some years back due to an ordering cock-up when we wanted regular trackball mice - some went to branches and were installed because someone didn't realise the difference.
    Nasty, evil things!

I've been using the Microsoft Trackball Optical on my spare machine for years, great to use and takes the strain off the wrist completely. A complete no-go for gaming of any kind though
